Cell Phone Holders... a better way?

I am a picky bastard trying to think of a better way to mount my iPhone. I like the idea that the add on accessories offer, but have not been happy with them so far.

Anything with adhesive falls off in the Kansas summers.

I have tried suction, but if it loses suction, it falls off.

Mounting it to my vent... I like my A/C and don't want to block it.

I don't want to screw anything into the dash.

So basically has anyone seen any sort of a mod to existing 99 4runner equipment that might allow for a better holder. I would like to be able to drive handsfree and also see my GPS as needed while driving.

My friend has this on his Jeep, and he's had it for 3 years. We live in Texas and it's hot like hell. He says he never had problems with it falling off the dash.

Are you partial to the clock? If not, this is what I did. I got the idea from someone on here but I dont remember who it was.

I still need to reroute the power wire through the plate but I ran out of time the day of and it hasn't bothered me all that much yet.

I made my own phone holder that sits by the 4wd shifter. Here's a quote from my build thread:

I got the phone holder finished and installed. I put a couple coats of gray paint on it. Then used double sided automotive trim tape to mount it.

Without the phone:

It works great! The phone is held securely in place, yet snaps in and out easily.

I've been using it for 10 months now, close to 18k miles and its been great. You can still use the CD player when its installed, you just have to remove it to insert the CD. I use my phone for GPS and bluetooth calls through the radio...all handsfree. Its also nice that I can take it with me when I travel and use it with rental cars. Not permanent, no stickiness and its relatively inexpensive.

Another vote for the Panavise bracket. It is a very solid bracket and you can mount whatever cell phone holder you want to it, or GPS or anything.

I have the Smoothtalker cradle, which as I put my phone in the cradle it's charging and connected to my stereo and there's an external antenna connector for a roof mounted cell antenna (You can also add on a cell amplifier).

Arkon phone mount. Bolts on under the passenger seat mounting bolt. Like $25 on Amazon, comes with clips for larger things like iPads.

I use my phone almost every time I drive. I don't have a tablet, so I use the phone as my GPS. Plus I can easily see who is calling and whether or not I want to answer.

Pandora or other music plus the torque app are the main things for me and like Millerad1651 said, seeing who's calling and phone GPS.

I picked this up a while back on sale. It is adjustable and attaches with a combination of suction and a sort of sticky ring, but leaves no residue. I also didn't want to affix something permanent. Here, it's easily visible for navigation or audio and doesn't obscure anything or stick out like a sore thumb. (It does obscure my tach a bit but I have an auto so it's not vital, and the holder can be removed easily if necessary. Plus I don't always have my phone in it.) I have never had any issues with it falling off in a hot car.
