Central VA Trails 3.1

- Which side of flagpole are we starting? From up top headed down Union Springs, or at the bottom headed up to Flagpole?

- I'll already be in Harrisonburg. What time and location is a good place to meet ya'lls group coming from further points east on Saturday morning? NOTE: ESPN Gameday / JMU Homecoming has this town in a buzz already, and Saturday morning is going to be nuts. Might want to bypass around or stay on the outskirts on your way to the trail head.

ps. I'm halfway curious to see what setups ya'll come up with for your CBs. I spent 45 minutes in the Pilot truck stop yesterday trying to decide if I wanted to fab up a firestik mount and purchase a cheap radio. The fact is, there simply isnt a good place on these 5ths to hard mount on the rear like there was with my previous generations. I'll probably make do without on this trip, and in the future either deal with a simple handheld / mag mount for trail use only, wait for someone to figure out a custom mount solution or go the HAM route like the boys on Expedition Overland

I believe we will be heading up the long side and potentially back down the long side pending what time we get on trail. We are meeting at the Shell Station at 1010 W Market St. Harrisonburg.

I was talking to [MENTION=126369]Chuch[/MENTION] when he picked his coopers up from my dealership. We are talking be at that shell by 10-1030 am saturday morning. so we can roll out by 1030-1045 to maximize time on trail and to get off the mountain with daylight so us campers can set up during the day.

Ok...I know that Shell / 7Eleven well....will see ya'll there between 10-10:30. Again, if I were ya'll I'd get off 81 at Bridgewater and come into town via 42 through Dayton. That puts you into downtown Harrisonburg 'the back way' somewhat and right near the Shell. Any other route into town via 81, Route 11 or Route 33 is going to have major delays due to gameday traffic.

Yup, I vote for the shell station by 10:30, LEAVING by 11 am. Let's gas up, use the bathroom and make it happen. I'd rather have some time on the trail and not be too rushed, but at the same time, at least 5 of us are headed north to camp after and although we aren't strapped, id rather set up camp in the daylight this time. Get to the top and see what kind of time frame we are on. I got no issues with going down the short side again to save time if we need be.

I'm using the midland as well that Gharp57 just bought with a small portable ant. My plan is to rig a small whip out back on my Gen 3 eventually. Just been too busy.

so take the exit by cracker barrel and head down to 701 and catch that over to 42? that the best way? i used g-maps and when i did cracker barrel to the shell it wanted me to do 11 all the way to 726. which kinda defeats the purpose of staying off of 11 with traffic.

Idea popped in my head. I myself will be having breakfast at Cracker Barrel Saturday morning. Ill get to the shell by 10am to be there and ready to roll ASAP.

Don't want to be left in the dark communication wise...just ordered that radio and antenna for this weekend. Should work well temporarily and I'll wire up a more permanent Firestik as mounting options open up in the future.

If anyone is arriving in town early, I have an open house in HBurg if you want to crash Friday night...and a garage party to install my new winch before the weekend trip.

Crawford exit #240 to VA-257 West. Go a few miles and once you get through the college and into the village of Bridgewater, head North on 42 around Dayton and right into Harrisonburg.

I'll toot my own horn today man, just because I can't for the life of me stop staring at them myself. [MENTION=125025]GHARP57[/MENTION] hooked it up for me, drove to Cville to get them and cant wait to put some dirt on them this weekend. Had to do a little trimming up front as you can see and have since finished that project and reinstalled finder flares.

But Scotty does not like to return calls or emails. Talked to him last Monday and he said I was third or fourth on line (can't remember) and he had two on the floor ready to ship. So who knows.
