Chain hanging down from spare tire

I have a small chain hanging down from my spare tire and was wondering if others have noticed this! It’s noticeable while standing at the rear of my 4runner. Never noticed this before……should this chain be tucked up on the inside of the spare?

That chain is what secures the tire as you lower it. Most Toyota vehicles have that attached underneath.

Yes, and mine is tied up inside the spare so you cant see it.

This was the first thing I notice when I bought my 4runner. I went back to the dealer and ask them if that was suppose to be hanging and they said yes that it was normal.

Mine never hung.....until I had to swap a flat.....then it always hung. I always meant to crawl under and see if I could hide it again but never did. I had new tires put on (including the spare), the shop hid the chain, not showing now.

I haven't checked mine but when I put on the exhaust tip a month ago I don't remember seeing it.

There is actually a picture of it hanging in the 2012 brochure. Noticed it about an hour before I saw this post. What a coinkydink.

Yes, it's hanging on mine. Figured it had something to do with the spare tire. I also figured it can't do any harm...
