problems changing climate-control bulb

I had no trouble accessing the little #74 bulb with the "green condom". I removed it easily and inserted the new #74 bulb easily, but it didn't light up! Thinking it may not have been completely seated, I pushed a little harder and the light socket pushed off behind the hole, out of reach.

Anybody ever have this happen? How much do I have to take apart to get at the little socket and get it back to the hole?

Any ideas as to why it didn't light up? I assume it's on the same fuse as the A.C. bulb that still lights up fine.

Did you figure this out yet? I'm having the same issue where the new bulb doesn't illuminate. I haven't looked into it much more than that though. Thanks!

Nevermind, I found my problem. The first bulb I tried, out of the pack of 2, didn't fit into the socket correctly. I originally thought it was in, but then I put the old one back in and saw how much deeper it went. So I tried the second new one and it fit just like the original. So I guess it's possible that you got an irregular one also. If not, I'm sure it's the wiring to the bulb socket. Good luck.

My 99 limited is WAY different then your setup. I had to take the dash apart, pull the climate control unit off, then seperate the two main pieces and ended up with 4 screw bases with a small halogen (looks like a single led with leads bent over the screw in base) have them in hand and can take pics of the back if need be. Now I'm having the fun part of trying to find a replacement around here. I thought I read somewhere that we need a 4mm LED but idk exact specs.
Need to figure it out soon, I wanna know outside temp without having to light up the cabin lol

So I've been looking all over the Internet to find out how to replace the burnt out bulbs behind the climate control area on my '97 SR5. I've gotten the bezel out, but not sure where to take it from here. The picture shows where I'm at now.

Old post but new question... I'm changing out all my dash lights on my 2002 SR5 to led and need help with the cigarette lighter lamp. I tried to pull it out and shattered it. Is there an led mod that can be done to replace the original bulb?

I unplugged the bulb from that white plastic piece and used the light from my ashtray since I don't use it. Works perfect

hmm always thought the 96-98 were the same in every way besides the 98 steering wheel, learn something new everyday on t4r.

This is where I'm at on the situation. I tried to replace the bulb, seeing as it wasn't working and when I took the climate control panel off and saw the socket was pushed back into the center where I can't reach it.

2000 4Runner - Climate Control panel removal

2000 4Runner, Manual - Does anyone know if you can remove the climate knobs and pull that panel directly off to replace the bulb? My climate panel no longer illuminates and I think the bulbs are out. I've seen a procedure to remove the entire console and center dash area but then I also read you can simply remove the climate knobs and take just that panel off (much faster apparently). But, I removed the climate knobs and my panel doesn't want to come off easily. I can get under and edge and pry it but I don't want to bust it. Can anyone confirm? Do I need to start at the center console and work my way up to remove the whole thing, or is there some trick to getting just the climate panel off? Thanks.

On the '99-'02 console / AC controls, you have to remove the dash trim first. It takes about 30 seconds to do that unless you have a bunch of stuff in the way (I do - ham radio, gmrs radio, scangauge, etc.). E-brake trim straight up, shifter trim up in the rear then up and back in the front. Remove shift knobs on MT and shifter to "L" for AT. Then the radio trim, pull straight back, starting at the bottom. Unplug connectors and you are there.

I'd also remove the radio for access, since you have the cable actuated controls and need a bit of room inside the dash to move it around due to the cables while you replace bulbs.

I just did this on my '99. The PN should be 90010-05152 and you'll want 3 of them.
