Intro (sort of) and new mods
Since purchasing the 2011 Trail Edition from Metal Tech in July, I realized that the guys at MT had done a build thread on the forum but I felt there was more to share about this amazing 4runner. I don't want to take credit for the amazing work that Mark, LT and the rest of the MT crew did. I just want their work to be appreciated. ( I have no affiliation to MT). Here is an overview of it:
This 4Runner has been a show truck for Metal-tech 4x4 for the past three years. First modification for the 4Runner, persimmon orange. A factory FJ55 Land Cruiser color found in 1973 and commonly used in Argentina for the 80 series.The truck has been professionally painted retro Toyota 1972 Orange, T-308 paint color. Painted may 08,2012. The roof, door jams and under the hood is all black for a true custom show look. The truck started out as a full 2011 Trail Edition package 4Runner.
Suspension: With about 4inches of lift, the Total Chaos 2” wider race proved long travel suspension up front. Custom fully boxed lower A arms and 4120 chromoly upper arms provide added travel and strength. The front suspension is controlled by custom built Radflo 2.5” coil overs with remote reservoirs. For added control the front end also has duel secondary Radflo 2.5” remote reservoir shocks. The rear suspension has a full Metal-tech 4x4 long travel system. The rear lower links are offset of added movement. Both lower and upper links future Currie Racing Jonny Joints for added flexibility. The rear shocks are custom built Radflo 2.5” remote reservoir and matched with Metal-tech 4x4’s expedition rear springs.
Armor: Bud Built skid plates from the engine past the transfer case. Bud Built skids are made from laser cut 3/16” plate and are considerable thicker over the stock skids. The rear Metal-tech 4x4 lower links are 1.75” in diameter and .298” wall thickness adding more armor to the rear of the truck. Protecting the sides of the truck are Metal-tech 4x4 sliders with a kick out protecting the rear quarter panel. All the soft brake lines have been replaced with custom built stainless steel jacketed brake lines. No spacers here!
Accessories:Rigid Industries stainless steel grill’s with Rigid Industries 20” SR light bar, and D2 4” lights.
Gearing: ARB Air Locker installed in the front diff, with ARB onboard air compressor. 4:56 Nitro Gear ring and Pinions in the front and rear.
Since the new wheels I added a stubby antenna to go with the Pioneer BT2600. It looks much better than the stock whip and I don't have to take it off for the car wash. Also did the LED interior swap. The only issue there was the lower door lights: the bulb bracket had to be widened to fit the 168's and the kit was short 2 168's. And I added custom mounting for the front license plate. I hated to drill into the bumper.
I was hoping to get to Brown's Camp and get new action pics but its closed due to fire danger. Soon.
