I ordered a 285/70/17 KO2 to do some test fitting and I’d like to mount it on the space if it’s got the same specs. I’m not getting the other 4 tires installed until end of month.

I would guess no because the Pro is a US Port package. The spare may match the original TRD ORP wheel specs, though.

I would consider buying one TRD Pro wheel and add in a 5 tire rotation. You will get a little more tread life out of the set too. This way the cost of your brand new tire and wheel as a spare won’t go to waste. You may want to consider a tire cover when underneath or get one of these: Spare Skid Plate - Skid Plates, Off Road Tires, 4x4

I checked and it looks like the standard spare size. Does the tire really compress this much when installed under weight of truck—see pic?

Toyo Open Country A/T III on 8.5 inch wheels

I have a 2021 Limited with 20" wheels and would like to change to 17" wheels.

I'm planning on getting the MB Legacy wheels from Discounttire, which are 17x8.5 -6mm.

It seems like the wheels are 1" wider than OEM 17s, but have the same backspace, so they'll just stick out an extra inch.

Will I rub with Toyo AT3s in stock size (265/70/17), especially when turning?

I don't have a lift and am not planning on getting one (as I have XREAS).

Enable me some mischief. I've been reading thru the guide and posts but still want some thoughts.

2.5" lift all around, stock UCAs
285/70/17s duratracks
Fender cut done.

Was eyeing some 17 wheels that are;
8.5" wide
0 or -10 available (I do get intrigued by wider stance appearance)
4.75" backspace for 0 offset
4.36 backspace for -10 offset

Thoughts on if I would have issues with this wheel config in 0 or -10?

My goal is not to fit bigger tires, lift, or chop, but rather to see how changing the offset will affect the vehicle (specifically scrub radius and drivability) and as far as I read, I didn't see much information about this.

The recommendation in the first post is to keep 4.1" to 4.5" of backspacing which doesn't really play into wheel well rubbing, but more scrub radius, correct? I'm looking to get aftermarket wheels which would be 8.5" wide (stock is 7.5) and have a -18 offset (stock is 15). The backspacing would go from 4.33" to 3.5" with the proposed wheels so then it seems that this would cause rubbing not when driving straight but when making harder turns.

I believe the decision is to not go with a wheel having these dimensions and look for something that keeps the backspacing within the recommended range.

Thank you for helping me validate my thought process (or finding holes in it!)

Hey folks!

Still pretty new here, I read both this and the "Going Bigger" thread and am having a hard time visualizing my options since I am still waiting to take delivery and figuring out if either of my ideas will rub.

I will be getting a 21 TRD Off Road soon and want to get rid of the stock tires ASAP and go up a little in size. Planning on some 275/70 17 KO2's. But, I dont really like how tucked the wheels are stock.

So I either want to push them out with spacers a bit (I have read the threads on wheel spacers too). Or, put them on some TRD Pro wheels or perhaps both I guess?

I can probably do some minor trimming. But, I am not sure if I would be willing to do a BMC yet and it would probably be a year or so before I add a lift.

Handy link! I was wondering if the overall height and width of the Limited's tires were roughly the same as the TRD Pro's and thanks to the calculator I was able to get the exact dimensions.

I've been considering buying some 17" Toyota TRD wheels and putting KO2's on my Limited. The width of the tires is 0.79" larger than the P245/60R20's I have now. A little extra width, I hope, will push the tires out further slightly from the wheel wells. The way the Limited's tires sit inside the wheel well has always been something I don't like.

Now to go find pics of P265/70R17's on a Limited model.

Put a deposit down on a 2022 Limited and want to get a set of 17" wheels and tires while waiting for who know how long for it to show up. Anyway, I'm thinking of picking up a set of 17x7.5 wheels with +24 offset. From my reading on fitting 17" tires on a Limited, it seems that with the +15 offset on factory wheels, there's a bit of rubbing with 265/70-17 tires at full lock. I figure a bit more offset might get rid of that so would a +24 offset wheel with 265/70-17 tires clear things like the UCA? I was told that anything under +30 would be OK. I thought I would double check with the experts here. Thanks!

In general, an 8 - 8.5" wide rim with 4.1 to 4.5" of Back Spacing is about ideal for a 5th gen.

2 questions.

7” is the OEM width correct, with +15mm offset. So wouldn’t that make the stock offset 4.6”? Maybe my conversion is wrong somewhere. 7+1 is 8. Divided by 2 is 4”, plus 15mm (.591”) is 4.591” offset stock.

Second question, and really the more important one to me:

So, when looking around at wheels at certain big wheel and tire companies that “guarantee” their searches fit 4Runners w/ stock suspension I see a ton of 8.5” wide wheels with +00mm (4.75” backspacing). Obviously that’s above your listed ideal. Should I trust said wheel/tire company, or should I be look only at the 17x8.5 with -10mm offset, which would put it at 4.36” offset.

That said does that mean a 17x8.5 with -10 offset shouldn’t rub on a stock suspension 5th Gen despite the wheel/tire sticking out an additional 1.7” compared to the stock tire.

This is all based on 265/70r17 by the way!

Edit: now that I think on it even though the wheel will stick out an additional 1.7” compared to stock, the tires width hasn’t changed, so it should only stick out an additional 25mm or roughly one inch just because of the offset difference correct? So would that be fine then

So the wheels never came in and the order was cancelled. I went out to the Black Rhino website to look up other alternatives. I found a local shop with great reviews so I called them, they looked them up and found them in no time.

Their recommendation was to go with the zero offset which I did and so far they've been great. I put them on the stock tires for now and will change tires once ski season starts here in NorCal.

Biggest plus is that I now have a local shop for mods and have an order out for some rock sliders.
