Charcoal canister location on 2002 4runner?

A friend of mine has a 2002 4runner and has had problems filling the gas tank--the pump nozzle continually shuts off after only a few seconds. We checked it out online and found out one possible cause could be a clogged hose connected to the charcoal canister.

Where is the charcoal canister located on her 4runner?

i have this too. sucks. trying the charcoal canister as it seems to be the root of most people's threads i've come across. they are expensive though. so I'm trying a used one. never had this problem on my 99' 4runner... and it had over 261k on it...

Interesting...... I have been slowly feeding the the tank for years. I always thought the filler neck shape was the issue with the pump nozzle continuously shutting off.

So which end do you clear the hose from, the engine side? Anyone have a picture of the tube? Had this problem for years and am trying to revive the other things in my runner now.

I've experienced this issue occasionally about a month after I installed my lift. Thought maybe the lift may have contributed to the issue but probably just a coincidence. I have noticed that as long as i don't put the pump nozzle all the way in, maybe just 3/4 of the way in, the pump doesn't shut off. Not sure what that's all about but haven't experienced the pump shutting off since I started doing that.

I experienced this too about a month ago but only for 1 or 2 fills after I routed new trailer wiring on my 01 (it travels on rear left side by that air passage near the left side of bumper) perhaps a coincidence, i tried using different filling stations and that seemed to help. Then eventually ended back at the 'offending' pumps and no more. Maybe the beginning of something bigger. :cowboy:

Found the hose attached to the factory air box. Blew through it and cleared it out. Not hard but not sure it did much since when i filled up it stopped once. Guess its a little better? Hard to tell with only one fill.
