Chasing the electrical monster

I just bought my T4R and have had the same issue twice now. First time I shrugged it off but now it did it again and I can't get stranded so I need to figure it out.

4R just looses all power for no reason once turned off. This is what happened this morning. Cranked vehicle in the morning without any problems (no hesitation). Drove to work and got out as normal and shut the door. As soon as I went to activate alarm, nothing. Went to start vehicle and nothing came on. Dash, stereo, lights, antenna, etc....nothing. Tried jumping it off, nothing. Would barely arc on the terminals with cables. After about 5-10mins of messing with cables, it all of a sudden cranks up without any hesitation?

Is has done this twice now...exactly the same about 2 weeks apart.

This past weekend I was working on timing belt/water pump and had the football game on the radio and it never once turned off. That lets me know its not battery problem.

Could still be the battery.Check voltage of your battery with the vehicle off then check voltage with engine running. You want to be sure its not as simple as a bad battery. Thats were I would start.

clean and tighten the cables.

that sounds like a bad connection.

Interesting. Corroded wires? That would act like a giant resistor, however, so that would probably cause it to be limited power all the time. Broken (or breaking) wires causing intermittent connections?

Check your battery. Sounds like a loose connection. I had a similar issue on a Chevy truck and just turn out to be bad connection.

Update. Took terminals loose and cleaned them as well as terminal rings. At first it seemed like it was fixed but now every single time I turn the vehicle off, it looses power. I open the hood, wiggle the wires around (both negative and positive) and it cranks right up and drives fine without any dimming lights or lose of power. I don't get it

Seems like it's the power wire going from battery to the Alt. will try and diagnose it more tomorrow. Just don't want the 4R to catch fire or something if there is a short.

Latest update:

Had battery and Alt tested.

Battery test : 100% good
Alt test : voltage reg failed

My concern-if the volt reg is bad how is the battery 100%? It showed the volt reg was at 12.8 which is low...so maybe too low to keep good current but enough to keep battery good? Is is possible the volt reg is causing all this or does it sound like a short somewhere?
