check engine light = new cat :(

my day off work the damn check engine light came on, so i roll the dealership to get a quick diagnostic.

one of the service writers (a buddy of mine) said according to the code reader:

p0420 or is it p420


not sure, but he said i am gonna need a new cat, or it may be my 02 sensors acting up.

i already replaced one of my 02 sensors not too long ago. i think it may actually be my cat.

any suggesstions?

It could be either. You could have the o2 sensor tested to see if it's within spec. Is this a cali truck with dual cats or a single? checkout yotatech.com and search p0420, there are tons of threads with the same question. You might be able to read through some stuff and get a better Idea of where to go from there. I know a few guys just cleared the code and it never came back, might be worth a shot. good luck.
