I thought i'd post some info for anyone who has these issues...
My Left Catalytic converter/Manifold was bad. #212K thousand miles on a 03 4.7L V8....in Rusty NY! I had it diagnosed at Midus as well as the Stealership just to be sure...
The Check Engine started coming on about a year ago....but it would many times go out and stay off for long periods. BUT When it came on, The VSC lights would come on and STAY on.
I was going to live with it until my inspection was due next summer... but living in Syracuse , NY we get a ton of snow/ice....long winters.
IMO, the VSC system is too valuable not be to be operating. It has saved me many times over the years....
So, Not willing to pay $1K or more at the Stealership, i'm lucky that My buddy is a Manager for MIDUS Muffler.... he does all work under the table.
$400 was his labor. Its illegal in NY to install any used Cat or a non-CARB compliant Cat. they cost over $700 or more at local stealership...
Bought a used one on EBAY from reputable source. $100 Bucks.! so for $500 bucks i'm in the clear.
it took a couple days but the Check Engine and VSC light turned off.. I learned the hard way to not have anyone CLEAR the Check Engine, because that does not TURN off the VSC light. (paid Toyota to re calibrate VSC twice, not knowing it was a bad cat at first.)
My buddy said it was a BASTARD JOB, and he's been fixing cars for 25 years...
UPDATE: check engine light back on along with VSC Trak. Off again, On again... now off but the VSC is still on.. that means the check engine light not likly to come on again..
no clue... maybe a glitch in computer....
