I really need help!

I'm installing an Eclipse AVN 6600 in my friends 2008 SR5 V6 Non-JBL system. Its plug and play. All harnesses fit perfectly. Attached the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) wire (purple/red) behind AC panel. The radio and everything works, except I don't get speed pulse signal for navigation and also the Check Engine Light turns on as well as the VSC off light blinks. If I install the Original radio back in and unplug and plug the battery back, the warning lights go away. Could it be the wrong VSS wire that I tapped into. I read of many posts earlier with a similar problem after an aftermarket radio install. Any information would be appreciated.

There is a wire that should be clipped, it is the wire that changes the volume of the radio as per how fast you are going, I can't name the system.

The Eclipse radio does not have this feature and sends wacky voltage down this wire, it can lead to the spedo & TPMS computer getting angry and not working properly. You need a pin-out diagram of the Radio Harness.

I had this problem and it took a Toyota tech 1 full darn week to figure it out, then I've seen anyone else have this exact issue either.

You also could have the wrong wires for Speed & Reverse, just an FYI you don't really have to hook them up unless you have a backup camera. The gps ant works well alone.

Thanks for the reply li-runner....That totally does make sense....i'm going to cut that wire and i think that should do the trick...as for the speed sensor wire, i think i still need to connect it...the reverse wire, probably not, because i'm not installing the reverse camera..

li-runner, which eclipse model you have and you only connected the GPS wire and navigation still works good?

The AVN-6620, I put the ant on the little ledge right behind the radio and it works fine.

Same for me.....Just unplugged the wires for steering controls. Fixed the problem but no wheel controls. 6620 model. Did your fix work?? I have the camera, and it works fine. let me know which wire it took if you did...thanks.

I won't have a chance to try the fix until the weekend. I will keep everyone posted.

I don't think the steering wheel control harness is the same one that Li_runner is talking about. Is the one wire that should be cut on the steering wheel harness? Li_runner, your steering wheel controls still work?

I don't know where this wire is, I only know what it does.

Everything works on my unit with this wire cut. I will try later on to find my toyota cd to find the wiring diagram.

If anyone has a pin-out diagram of the non-jbl radio harness to post please do.

I finally installed the eclipse avn 6600 to my cousins 4runner SR5 with no problems now. I found out no wires have to be cut. The wires that are causing the check engine light to turn off is on the 4runner oem harness that contains the steering wheel controls. In the beginning i plugged this harness directly into the eclipse unit and that caused check engine light to turn on and the speed sensor not to work. This time i plugged this harness into the eclipse harness(provided with the eclipse head unit) which then plugged into the eclipse head unit. Then no problems! This will make sense to all the people who have an eclipse unit.
