Been watching this show for a while...looks like they finally woke up and started something other than a domestic build. Check it out...

Caught this on the weekend, they looked it over, changed the timing belt, and went wheeling, lol.:trophy:

did you notice the part when they were talking about prerunners and 4wd ... they said you could spot a 4wd by the 6 lug wheels ... the only way to spot 4wd is to look for the front shafts ... or the mudflaps with 4x4 on them -lol- those never lie ...

they also said the 3.4 V6 is a non-interference engine when they were talking about the timing belt ... is that right? I always thought our 3.4's were interference type ...

I checked a cpl of sites to confirm...the 3.4 is a "non-interferance" Engine.

I also thought it was funny statement that a 5-lug to 6 lug indicates 4WD...I was thinking these guys have been working on GM trucks for too long.

Either way it was really cool to see the capabilities of the "stock" Tacoma...wish mine was a 4WD...I should have checked that option when I bought it.:redbrick: back in 1998.

Oh well on the hunt for a new to me 3rd gen with the elusive locker and 4WD. Been watching the powerblock off and on for at least 7-8 years and I am really glad they are working on Toyota trucks.

Dave - I agree - it was cool to see one of our kind of trucks on the show! I never thought to look up the interference issue - what a relief! When I bought my 4runner, that was the only thing I was kind of hesitant about ... having a DOHC engine (which I thought automatically meant interference). Toyota really did the 3.4 right!

I have a little 90 mitsubishi mighty max with a 2.4L in it - I've broke timing belts twice in it: the first time, the belt was just worn out ... the second time the tensioner (that I should've replaced as part of the first job) seized up and the belt chewed itself up, jumping timing before breaking. But both times all I had to do was tow it home and replace the belt. I'll probably never skimp out on replacing those pulleys or tensioners again.

My 4runner is 2wd and is our "nice" vehicle for my wife to drive ... one day my mitsubishi will die and I hope to get a tacoma 4wd with the 3.4

I watched it too. Pretty solid Taco they're starting with. 5 speed with a locker. I love my 4R but I was jealous.

I thought it was funny that they didn't know the difference between the lower control arm and the front diff mount (when they were talking about where they smacked the rock). They definitely don't know Toyotas like they do domestics, but it was still cool to see them working on a Taco.

I stopped watching this show since they always did some huge crazy projects that were really unrealistic for the average gear head. It was cool but got old quick for me.

Glad to see a yota on there, ill be sure to check the show out.

it's a love/hate thing for me ... there are not many choices when it comes to shows about wrenching on cars, so I do like to watch it ... but I get frustrated with their budget being $5k worth of parts and/or $2k worth of fab tools.

i love powerblock been watching for a long time, and i really thought that it would be Xtreme 4x4 that would be working on a newer Yota, but oh well i will take it either way. I have been writing them both Trucks and Xtreme and begging for them to do a Tacoma build, even sent pics of mine in over and over, maybe it finally helped, lol. But really glad to hear it, now lets just hope they dont go and screw it up.
