Choosing a rear bumper w/ tire swing.

I am looking to purchase a rear bumper, having some issues deciding which bumper to go with. I narrowed it down to two bumpers and was wondering which of the two would be best.

The first rear bumper i was looking at is the CBI and the second rear bumper is the Shockworks. They both seem comparable. Anyone have these installed on their runner and what are your pros/con/thoughts after you installed it. I am looking for a strong bumper that isn't too heavy and is a simple install with relocation of rear camera. Also, does adding the rear bumper remove needed sensors or anything airbag related?

Thanks in advance.

I'm looking to get a new bumper in the next 6 months, why did you settle on those two? I'm personally feeling my preference leaning towards the southern style speed rear bumper. Due to my needs and you don't have to cut your bumper. Just wondering what brought you to your conclusion.

Are you talking about the 5th gen modular rear bumper from Southern speed? I'll do some more research on it. I like the way the others looked, and they had options for camera relocation and had rear lights.

It has rear camera relocation and the option for lights as well. And it's price is very on point.

My last ride was a Rubicon unlimited with 37" Nitto's. I have to say...swinging out the tire every time I needed to open up the back was a major pain after a while. The 37" spare was VERY heavy! If I was parked on an incline at all my wife would have a very difficult time ever getting it to shut and usually I had to go do it. I love the look of the 5th gen with the tire mounted on the rear bumper and a 265 or 275 or 285 tire is a lot lighter than a 37" nitto trail grappler but I am enjoying the super easy access to the cargo area of my T4R with no big tire in the way. :)
Saying all that...I love the rugged look of the full metal bumper and tire swing gate on the T4R...I'm just going to appreciate it from afar for the time being. :) :)

I really like my shrockworks. It is built solid as well. My only one "issue" is because the spare sits lower, I've dragged the bottom of it a couple of times. On the other hand it allows for more visibility out back so it's a trade off.

I think you'll be happy with both options. Also check the SS offroad, it looks good in pictures.

Big fan of the CBI, and I've dragged it across rocks, the thing is built like a brick shit-house.

With your rig, I have build envy. IMO it is one of the cleanest and most well put together 5th gen runners I've seen. I've been using your rig as inspiration to go my owe route on my build.

I dont think you could go wrong with either bumper, personally I like CBI's, and thats whats going on when I replace mine. I think the style and design are a little bit better. The only thing with Shrockworks you might want to check is lead times. Them seem to be significantly longer than others, but if your OK with that its not a big deal.

I called a few places for a snorkel, the last time we went off-roading we went in some deep water and i really do not want to sieze my engine, so i'm hesitant about going back in the water without one. Called ARB, they said they didnt have a part number for it, doh! :smokin:

Pretty easy. You drive/fly up to Portland and stock LawnDart and steal it off of his rig while he is having a Latte. :playball:

I don't drink lattes.

Because the Safari Snorkel doesn't officially exist for the 5th gen, and who knows if it'll ever enter production.

The rear window visibility looks better on the Shockworks, though I really dont want to drag anything while off-roading. I do like the style of the CBI better, im digging those side handles on the sides of the bumper, although im not liking the cut-outs for the lights, they look alittle big, seems there is a space even when the lights are installed. I guess id have to see it close up.

If im correct, the last time Safari created a snorkel for the T4R was back in 1994 or 96? I could be wrong. Not sure if that would fit.

Dude, you will drag things offroading, usually it's at the start or end of your rig at the lowest point. In my case it's the hitch mount which is the lowest point when either going up a steep rock or down. It happens. The side handles are not handles, they're to protect the rear quarter because typically the back of the vehicle will want to kick out once the rear wheel clears and obstacle. I've seen some people get them from CBI without the guards, and it's sort of goofy not to have them.

Yeah soooooooo much extra space. :ohwell: /sarcasm

No. Trust me, the 5th gen snorkel shares nothing in common with any other model. Some of the angles and attachment points are pretty damn tricky to work with that quarter panel and A-pillar
