Choosing a rear bumper w/ tire swing.

I'm going to side with LawnDart here and say that if you're making contact with more than the hitch mount area you're either doing stuff that takes serious balls and or a serious lack of braincells.

I don't know anything about the Shrockworks bumper, but I know I can remove the rear swingout on my CBI bumper if I want. All it takes is 10 mins, some muscle, and some anti-seize on the spindle. I used to have mine off when we had just had our daughter because I anticipated it being too much of a hassle opening and closing, but it's no big deal.

Full discloser, the bumper was on my 4runner when I bought it but CBI has been great with helping me understand some things since I'm not the smartest tool in the shed.

You know its steep when the spare tire on the swing away tire carrier drags....Tells you that you must be in Utah where such insane antics are possible.

Just dont drag your roof, thats bad.....real bad....

I recently bought the CBI. My choice was between CBI (popularity) vs. 4x4 labs (increased departure angle). I probably should have gone with 4x4 labs, as I don't plan to run a spare without a swing out and wouldn't mind cutting out the rear cross member and welding in the bumper.

The Southern Style Offroad bumper looks fantastic in the pics on their site, but the body gaps appear to be way too small to be functional for serious off road use.

I don't think the tail lights or the driver's side rear glass would survive many trails around here.

One of my concerns with a rear bumper and swingout is using a hitch-mount bike rack. Looks like the Southern Speed is as tight as you can get, but then you have to use the floating side ladder which I worry about.

Anyone have experience with a bike rack and bumper with swingouts? Especially a 1Up?

4x4 Labs is 3500.00  Can practically rebuild your engine for that. CBI is looking good to me. As far as the spare goes, you NEVER want it under neath. Other then looking better, dragging your spare tire around off-road is never good and the first time you have to crawl around in the dirt to get at your spare you will be ready to run out and get a swing away tire carrier.

tavllc.com can modify CBI bumpers to put a second extended hitch on the swing arm for bike applications.
