Chuckles' 98 Manual SR5 4Runner

Well, I was under the truck today and notice a new oil leak. I'm pretty sure it is the rear main seal. I was planning on pulling the transmission this summer anyways to see if the shotty mechanics did the clutch correctly anyways.

So, I need to do it in the next week or two because I have a big 3 day weekend off-road trip coming up at the end of this month.

I also need a new battery because my 4 month old Toyota True-Start tests bad and failed me a couple times. I'll be getting my replacement sometime this week or the next at Beaman Toyota.

chug, chug, chug....

Not sure if I mentioned this or not, but I'm getting an e-locker in the next month or two! (probably next month because I'll be tired of working this month because of the rear main seal job)

I'm riding in this beast on 37s tomorrow!

Getting better and better every time I check in, you really need to get a plate front bumper, that would set your runner off big time!

Some pictures from yesterday. I really want a SFA 1st gen now...

Lots of progress, but I'm still a ways away from having it all together.

Got everything out. Cleaned up the transmission and starter. I'm doing the RMS tomorrow and hopefully get the clutch and transmission in by the end of this weekend.

I bought a NAPA branded LUK flywheel. Hopefully it's alright.

The starter is at least a few years old at least and said "remanufactured in Mexico" and the contacts still look really good.

Painted my driveshafts red and greased the u-joints really good on the workbench. I'm also painting the transmission crossmember red because I can.

Got the truck all together tonight and the clutch is sooooo smooth!

Long story short, I broke the slave cylinder, so I ordered new Aisin master and slave cylinders. So, everything is new in the clutch system except for the hydraulic lines and the pedal assembly.

I'm ready for the big excursion this weekend too!

Clutch is so much better. Not sure what made it so much better. I think the master cylinder was about to go. And Marlin's mix of Japanese components is way better than Chinese crap. Good to have a new Toyota main seal.

And super proud of Chuckles. He learned a ton from me, and that really makes me proud. He did 95+% by himself, and he's only 18. I did have to get his pilot bearing out. They are a bugger.

Well, the 'ol truck did great this past weekend! I really enjoyed Coppinger Cove with hardly any mud! Prentice Cooper was also fun!

I have been chewing up my KOs on the rocks and I finally got a chunk out of my sidewall. Right now, the plan is to get some 34x9.50 super swamper TSLs and mount them on some spare wheels to have for my weekend trail rides only. I'll need to cut my rear bumper and pinch weld to clear them in the rear. In the front, I am pretty sure I'll hit the frame at full lock and I know I'll at least have to pound the pinch weld back some. I guess we'll see what happens when I get my paycheck next week...

The NAPA/LUK flywheel is a complete POS and the starter doesn't engage with the teeth sometimes. I'm going to try and replace the starter with an original one from the junkyard and see if that helps any.

My driver's side rear axle seal started leaking last week and I changed it out last night. So far, no leaks. Wish me luck on that one!

Also, I should be getting my e-locker axle in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for that!

Almost got the front flexed out all the way. Just had a tiny bit more up travel and idk about the other side. I have to have the rear stuffed to get much with the rubber bushings up front.
