Saw a cool 4Runner today! It had a Toyotech lift, some kind of high clearance fenders, and 33's. It's also a five speed! Talked with him for a few minutes about it and hopefully he will join on here.

Cleaned Seat Belts/ LBJs/ Sway Bars/ Vinyl Flooring

I cleaned the seatbelts with Oxiclean again. They look brand new! This is from the second rinse- first soak in Oxiclean and first rinse were worse.




Suspension disassembled... Are the TREs supposed to droop that much? There is no play in them at all. I'm getting new boots for the ends because they are ripped. Also, it's amazing what the right tool will do! I tried breaking the TRE-LBJ joint loose for at least an hour and a half with three different pullers. We then bought a tie rod puller and each side took thirty seconds haha.









I extended my rear sway bar end links with some rubber bushings. I also removed the front ones to see what it is like. One of the front ones came undone and messed up the threads some time back. Don't know what I'll do about it.




Here is a sneak peak of the vinyl. We're still putting it in. We've mad two bad cuts though

Thanks! I used 3 1/2 rolls of peel n seal (approx 40-45 sq. ft.) plus the large sheets of padding that came with the vinyl. I wont get to hear how it sounds until this snowmageddon thing is over (can't pick up LBJs from dealer). Three rolls would do the entire passenger area, but I bought four and decided to do the cargo area since I had it.

I got the LBJs finished tonight! Just need to put the front wheels back on and lower her down. Pictures tomorrow...

The floor was such a pain! I like it though. No school for a week helps with getting stuff done :zoom: I'm super excited to be able to drive it after almost two weeks! :whoo:

Your son's truck looks nice too! 5 speed? How do the bags work with leaf springs?

No. It's automatic. 3.4 engine. It's fully loaded and was owned by a VIP and financed originally by the U.S. Senate Credit Union. It was titled to a corporation. I google mapped his waterfront house and there was a huge (6 car?) garage. The windshield has no imperfections at all and it's OEM. They traded it in at a Toyota dealer. We looked at about 6 pickups and 4Runners since Oct. Of course he wants to keep driving the 5 speed '89. I was wanting air bags and a pickup. It's the Eagle Scout project hauler. We're missing a whole week of school here too!

Heck, I don't blame him for wanting the '89! Sounds like a solid truck for him though. So your son is working on his eagle project? Me and my dad are Eagle Scouts (I got mine February 2014 and his was 1980 or 81).

Thanks! One word of advice is to not let him work on his truck until he finishes. If I had gotten Illzoni's first gen 4Runner, I probably would have never made Eagle. For example, Black Friday 2012 I ordered some computer parts and my dad hid them until I finished a part of my project book that I had been putting off for weeks/ months. Let's just say I finished it in an hour. All the bugging of my parents was really annoying at the time, but as I look back, if they didn't do it, I wouldn't have finished.

LBJs/ TRE Boots

Finished up the cotter pins this morning. She's all ready to go!


The old ones. They are really loose and have a lot of up and down movement. As far as I know, they have 250,xxx miles on them. (I cut off the boot on this one to see what they are like)








The worst of the bolts. My dad's parts guy only got us 4 bolts, so I put 2 new ones on each side and reused the other two.

Here are the new boots I put on. They are Energy Suspension 9.13101R





Smashed grease into the ball joint


Put plenty of grease in the dust cap




Installed. They squished down really good and grease came out. I don't think much dirst will get in if any.

I drove it today with the front sway bar off and I couldn't tell a difference at all! That just shows how shot the factory shocks were at 248,xxx miles!

I'm probably going to put it back on to help make the new shocks last as long as possible.

Did some wiring today. I got my ABS switch routed into the cab instead of in the engine bay. The switch labeled "Fog" is for my switchback turn signals that are currently in a UPS truck somewhere!




I also rigged up some LEDs for the marker lights.






With low beams on
