I finally got my alternator switched out. The left is the old parts store reman 70 amp and the right is my freshly rebuilt Denso 80 amp from a 99-02 4Runner. So far so good. It might need a bearing or two though. The voltage at idle is a perfect 14.2V.




I discovered that a PO sliced through all 3 wires almost all the way (on the alternator plug) and I am going by the junkyard to find a pigtail off something to replace it with.

Oh bummer. We usually head out for darker skies and make an overnight of it. Saw 1 here in town, was probably a nice bright one away from here.

80amp is better than 60amp like my oe is! May have to go that route if I don't go for something.....more. It's still chugging away, though.

The truck is looking good dude. Another great thread I've got to get caught up on! Very nice night pics btw. Looks like we are both planning a Moab trip. How is that going? I just finalized my planned itinerary. If its your first trip I suggest you plan each day out but also leave good amount of time for getting lost, wandering or whatever. This being my 3rd trip and the wife's 1st I've got it planned out pretty tight. I just wish I had allotted another 2 days out there.

You could spend an entire year out there and not see everything there is to see in the area known as Moab. Can't wait to make it back!

Wow, those are amazing. I like the clouds in the shot, gives it some dimension.

It was weird and eerie and the cicadas were all talking while it was darker. Your dad did an excellent job of capturing the dimness.

Wow those eclipse shots are incredible! Is that gas coming off of the sun? I haven't seen any pictures of the eclipse that look like that. Oh and clean build, I like it when the mods are kept to the functionality side, and not over excessive. Subscribed.

Alternator Rebuild- brushes and bearings

I got it finished! Will be installing it tomorrow morning. It's the smoothest alternator I have ever spun and it better sound good or I'll be mad lol

I bought a cheapie harbor fright puller and ground it down so it would fit between the bearing and the fan to pull it off

Super jealous of your adventures and that you got to go to Windrock, awesome.

One of those pics remind me of Devil's Promenade at Ha Ha Tonka, the wall of a collapsed cave.

Wish my dad could do cool adventures with me like you two do!
