Classic Soft Trim Leather

So I am getting a dog in a few weeks and was thinking I should upgrade my interior from the cloth seats to leather. I called my Yota dealer and they said they work with a company called Classic Soft Trim. Does anyone have any experience with them?

After searching the forum I found a couple of posts in non-5th gen forums about the company. Seems like they have pretty decent reviews, but I have yet to see a 5th gen with Classic Soft Trim leather.

Do y'all have any thoughts or experience? Thanks in advance. :cheers:

I have heard good things about Katzkin, and know there are a few users on this forum who have used them:

If you dog just stays in the back seat, another cheaper option may be to get a wetokle seat cover in the rear. They fit well, protect your seat, and you can install them yourself.

Yeah, I saw a lot of posts about Katzkin, but nothing about Classic Soft Trim. The Classic Soft Trim Dealer said for standard black leather with black piping for all three rows would be $1099 + Tax.

I know I could get away with the seat covers, but the dog is a nice excuse to convince the wife I should get leather. :

I always consider leather a better more durable option than standard uphostery for both kids and pets. That being said I just sold a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee whose leather interior was virtually flawless in the back seat......until I got my new dog exactly 3 years ago.

He is a big dog -- 75 lb Lab that goes everywhere I let him. In fact, he has more saddle time in my new TE than even my wife.

Well he was hard on that leather seat in the old car. Over the course of the last couple of years he made numerous visible nail marks and that is without being an overly active car rider. In fact, he either calmly sits with his head out the window or just curls in the back seat and sleeps until we get to where we are going. So it is not a lot of jumping or fidgeting around.

For my new TE I purchased a universal fit rear seat cover at Petco. Despite being a uni-fit it contours to my seat like a fitted sheet. Easy on and off with a large nylon buckle strap that holds it snug to the seat back. I leave it on because he is most often my wingman. It keeps the hair off until l have a surprise human rider and the SofTex is still immaculate underneath. I paid about $50 for it.

Classis soft trim does good work from what I have seen. Do a search, quite a few guys here have had their leather done by them. I went with Katzkin leather, happy with them too. One thing I noticed is with classic, they do the black sticking, not sure if they can do custom colors, with Katzkin, I had a choice and matched the grey stitching of the factory panels.

Just throwing in my two cents. If memory serves me correct leather seats from the factory come with a stiffer foam then the cloth seats do. Leather tends to like a firmer foam cushion than the cloth. May want to look into that if you care. Also, my memory is from the fourth GEN so I could be wrong with the fifth GEN

Not sure if anyone is interested, but I got the leather installed and wanted to post a few pictures. In my biased opinion it is a huge upgrade over the cloth seats. The leather is very soft and feels great. There are a couple of looser spots, but I am sure that is mostly caused from the seat cushions flattening over the last 4 years that I have had it.

They did add some 1/2" foam in some spots that were bad (the humps on the outside of the drivers seat) to help alleviate some of the loose-ness.

What do yall think?

Very nice. Still, to keep them nice you might want to get a hammock-like seat cover. We have a micro fiber version from Orvis; there are many other available. It attaches at each from and rear head restraint, and acts as a hammock... the dog is supported even over the footwells. Provides a very large area which is sufficient for our two retrievers, though we often put them in the cargo area and use the hammock as a rug back there.

Dog toenails are tough on leather.
