Climate blower only works at max

One of the first things I thought I'd fix on this truck has ended up taking the longest. The blower on my climate/AC/heater works fine, but only turns on at full blast. (Or nothing. It turns off fine.) I bought a new climate panel off a junker and plugged it in today but it still has the same issue. I checked the interior fuse panel but everything seemed fine. (Not sure if there is a specific fuse for the blower, but one labeled ACC checked out.)

This truck has a garbage electrical system due to PO ripping out an alarm, so it certainly could be something screwy in the wiring, but I thought I'd ping the oracle for ideas before I dig into taking the dash apart and tracking down loose wires.

Any ideas?

They are different by year, or specifically by CC system. The auto's take a different resistor, or at least that's what the parts house will tell you.

OP, make sure you take your old one with you. You'll want to match the overall size and shape to the new one.

As for getting it out, it's about a 10 minute job. Pull the glove box out and it's two screws.
 
That sounds like your issue exactly. Had the same thing happen on other Toyota's before. It's a very simple fix.
 
Sounds just like the Blower Resistor need replacing.

Usually when they go it reverts the fan to blow only on high, so at least you can still use it and not be stuck without a working blower.

Earlier toyota's had the resistor coils without a proper support (see image), so with shaking, they fail so fast. The newer ones have their coils rested on a ceramic block and never seen failing one of those recently.

I've never done this on my 4runner but I had the exact symptom on my Nissan Pathfinder and a new blower resistor fixed it.

My original was a ceramic type. It failed on the low side. Played hell fishing that ceramic chunk out of the blower motor through the hole, lol.
 
blower motor resistor

I'm posting pics for those who find this thread after striking out on finding good info so many times, like I did.... Tho, the info provided here is right on.
Included rudimentary schematic; note that any resistor that fails eliminates all speeds prior to that link.
Simple steps to replace:
1. remove glovebox.
2. remove crossbar.
3. there's the resistor module - 2 screws!

2000 4-runner 3.4L

My search brought me here.

My 2001 4Runner is only blowing on settings 2 and up. Setting 1 has no blowing going on, all the other settings are working perfectly

Blower intermittently works only on High, AC not working

Hi all, I have a 2007 SR5 and the air isn't working. I'm a woman here with very little knowledge of car mechanics but I'm sick of spending so much money to not fix this problem. I can't seem to figure out why my air only works on high and now is mostly not working at all. I've taken it to 4 mechanics (partly because I keep moving) and no one is able to fix it and some are making it worse.

I've replaced the blower motor and blower motor resistor (did this myself). The last mechanic that looked at it said the connector was coming out and he got a new one and put it in. This fixed the problem of the air not working at all for awhile but now the problem is back and the air isn't coming on at all. Ever since he worked on it the AC stopped working (when the blower was coming on).

A previous mechanic said someone had messed with the wires and jimmy rigged some things and they went through and said they fixed that. Sounds like the only thing to do now is to have a mechanic go through all the wires which I'm guessing is going to be really expensive? I've already spent $800 on this and that's why I'm posting it on here, maybe someone has an idea??? Or knows a better mechanic in San Diego???

Might have better luck in the 4th gen section. This is the 3rd gen [1996 -2002]
