Clock wont keep its memory?

GlennD

That really doesn pertain to the issue I am having. But thanks anyways.

I am having issues with my OEM clock resetting.

Also noticed today that the clock will reset when the car is turned off, lights are still on and I lock the car with the key fob, in turn shutting off the lights.

This too resets the clock.

sant it sounds like there is a draw. maybe coming from the control units form the hid's. u could put an amp meter to the battery and let the vehicle sit and see if there is any amp drawing from the battery. i'm not sure how much 4runners sould be but i'm guessing it should be around 18 milliamps (comparing draws fromother cars). another trick u can try is unplugging one hid control unit at a time and see if that fixes the problem. but if i had to guess i would say is a bad control uint or relay draining the battery

I was talking about the OEM clock reseting. Removing the dim wire fixed it. The clock on the eclipse always worked fine.

GlennD~

Thats interesting, but again, I would be sacrificing something for another, which sucks.

Also, I do not see how the dimmer wire coincides with this, as the dimmer does not require a contant 12v.

So, I am going to try to reposition the grounds for these HID's to see if this stops the clock from resetting.

This is so annoying.

Again, it only resets the clock if the lights turn off automatically or with the key fob locking the car twice to shut lights off.

If I turn the lights off manually, car running or not, it will NOT reset the clock.

What the hell is this??

So I switched the grounds up and they were not the culprit.

Its gotta be either the amp connection or the way I have the radio wires connected to the back of my deck.

What the hell else could it be?

So, its not just the clock that is resetting.

Its my Audio Control settings on my deck.

Everytime I turn the ignition off , it resets the Audio Control settings back to like the default factory settings. This is pissing me off!!!

Also, I noticed the clock issue is periodic and will NOT always reset when the lights auto turnoff or withthe fob. Sometimes it will do what it should.

What is going on here?

So, I did some experimenting.

This clock continues to reset even when moving the grounds to an alternate location.

It continues to reset when I disconnect one ballast side vice versa, so this tells me its no particular side.

I tested the battery with a multimeter, and the battery does not show a drop of fluctuation when the lights turn off automatically or with the fob, so its not demonstrating a loss of voltage, or its so minute and quick the multimeter cannot read it.

I talked to some of the guys at Best Buy with the "Geek Squad" and they seemed to understand what has been occuring.

They recommed grounding both sides to the neg terminal on the battery or connecting a diode to each ground.

What are your thoughts people????

Hey Joe,

I have reciently installed my HID from xenon depot and have also run into this issue. I don't have anything else hooked up to my battery other than this terminals for the HID. Mine resets every few days with no consistancy. I can go a few days with no problem having my lights automatically turn off or from my fob with no issues. But eventually my clock ends up resetting itself. Have you learned or tried anything new since your last post?

HI MegaByte907

Well, I gotta tell you, its comfoting knowing someone else is experiencing this besides me.

Funny you ask, if I have worked on it.

I have taken multiple approaches and nothing has worked, it will still reset.

I have switched grounds on both sides, repositioned ballasts, checked fuses, recrimped power wires, unplugged each ballast, checked battery with multimeter on and turning off, turned stereo power off and it STILL resets!!!

I cannot solve this problem and it makes no sense to me. The only explanation I can come up with is the clock is somehow losing power for a brief second when the lights turn off with the key fob or automatically.

However, when I turn the lights of via the switch (with car off), it doesnt reset the clock, so figure that one out.

Are you getting any consistancy? Meaning does your clock always re-set itself after you let it shut off automatically or by key fob? or does it re-set itself at random after doing those steps? I read that you said it was random but was wondering if that's still the case.

I'm not sure where to start trouble shooting as you have done everything i could think of. I find it wierd that it is only the clock that resets but everything else stays in tact at least that's the only thing that I can notice. I'm also pretty sure that it's the HID that are causing the issue as I havn't had this problem prior to installing them.

Well I'll do my best trying to figure this out. Please let me know if you find out what's going on.

I only say it is random, as there have been times it has not reset when the lights turn off automatically or with the key fob. The majority of the time, i.e. 90% of the time it resets.

I can tell you that its a FACT that the HID systems is causing this reset.

The clock requires a constant 12V which holds its memory, but so do the other metrics I believe. Why these do not reset too is beyond me.

We are getting closer

MegaByte907~

I think I am narrowing this down.

My clock has NOT reset in a long time.

Due to this recent finding, I surveyed the settings on everything and I noticed the fog lights were turned in the "ON" position.

When the fog light switch is turned in the "ON" position, my clock does NOT reset when the lights turn off automatically or w/ the fob.

When the fog light switch is turned in the "OFF" position, my clock will NOT reset itself when the lights turn off automatically or w/ the fob.

Using process of elimination, I was able to determine the foglight switch is somehow the culprit, or I should say the only indicator I can find that is playing a role in the resetting of the clock.

Now the only question is, WHY???

Sorry i'm a little confused on what you said:

When the fog light is in the ON position then the clock won't reset itself? but when the fog lights are in the OFF position it will?

That's an interesting find. I have been unsuccessful trying to trouble shoot mine as it has a mind of it's own.

I tried on every way i could since we last touch base and could not get it to reset itself only to have it reset when i wasn't paying attention.

I'll mess with it some more and see what i can find with this new piece of info.
