Cluster f----up

I had intentions of doing the LED mod to my instrument cluster while I fixed a few other issues requiring the dropping of my dash. Long story short I could not find the full LED mod detail by searching; it seems the important parts , i.e., how and where to put the LED's in the cluster (numerically something like steps 5-7) have disappeared. I needed to use the truck ( it is not my DD) to move my daughter back from college after graduation (with a great job!) so I put everything back together and abandoned the LED mod for now. I had taken the cluster out before and put it back and everything worked . This time not so much. My speedometer I'd 22 mph low, my tach just stays pegged, the gas and temp are correct. All of the gauges were at 0 when the car was off. How do I fix this. Right mow I am using my Garmin GPS as a speedometer but that is a PIA. Thanks.

My first thought is something like you tried to do, doesn't sound like you put the right amount of research into it. I researched for weeks before I tackled it, luckily after a few probes everything works great on mine. All instructions are on the thread, should hit a lot of pages http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-g...r-hvac-switches-window-*steering-wheel-4.html

Your can probably be fixed, but you need to make sure you know what it requires. Or I would suggest sending it to someone on the thread to possibly fix it.

Thanks for the reply. I think if I had seen the rest of the mod I probably would not have attempted it. I did not think it would be this complex and I have done all of the other work on my truck so I figured I would look it up as I was doing it. Product of minimal free time and lots of projects to fill it. When I get a chance I will pull the cluster again and see if I can send it off. The last time I sent off an item to a member here (Satoshi grill) it took him almost 4 months to get it back to me so I am a bit leery of that.

I had the same experience. The solution was: Take out gauge cluster, disconnect battery, manually set needles on gauges to zero, re-install gauge cluster, reconnect battery.

With the battery disconnected, the calibration reset to zero.

I had yosh2000 do my cluster swap. Inexpensive, professional, and had them back end of week. Highly recommend.

Good post - this is the solution

i dont see the pdf there, but i posted this before
INCLINATION SENSOR ZERO DEGREE
CORRECTION
NOTICE:
• When replacing or removing/installing the
combination meter assembly and inclination
sensor assembly, be sure to perform zero degree
correction of the inclination sensor.
• When performing zero degree correction, install
the combination meter assembly and perform it in
level surface.
• Also perform zero degree correction when the
body level setting is inclined because of vehicle
height adjustment.
(a) Turn the ignition switch off.
(b) While pressing the RESET switch, turn the ignition
switch on.
(c) Within 5 seconds after the ignition switch is turned
on, repeat pressing and releasing the RESET
switch 3 times and keep holding the last press for
more than 5 seconds. (Buzzer sounds for a second)
NOTICE:
If the buzzer does not sound, perform this
procedure from the beginning.
(d) Release the RESET switch when buzzer sounds.
(e) Press the RESET switch again and keep pressing
for more than 5 seconds. (Buzzer sounds for a
second again)
HINT:
• When the buzzer sounds twice, reset operation is
completed.
• The buzzer sound of the first and second time is
the same.
NOTICE:
If the buzzer does not sound or keep sounding
for more than 1 second, perform the procedure
from the beginning.

Riceandpho - you missed a bullet point that should be next to last:

* Go to Enterprise and rent suitable vehicle to move kid with job home from college. Then...[insert last point here]

Thank you for the replies. I appreciate the constructive info that is given on this forum when a less experienced member needs help, unlike other forums I belong to ( i.e. "The Hull Truth") where you feel like a punching bag if you are not an expert on every subject.

Understandable. Had the same thing happen to me. It wasn't that long, but long enough to annoy. That member apparently no longer with us. Anyway, after a few episodes of "nonsense", I turned to Yosh. I found him on tacomaworld and since then has gotten a 4Runner. Yosh's work is fast, professional. He "fixed" what the other member messed up. Yosh is my go-to guy. (No, he is not paying me for the shining review, LOL)

I never did the 0 calibration and I took my cluster out about 10 times. Hope the law of averages doesn't catch up to me.

If OP wants to do it himself, that's great, but the greatest danger of doing the gauge cluster LEDs is removing/reinstalling the needles. Sometimes they break or reinstalled wrong. Also, be careful of reinstalling the ODO display.
