Coils....how to inspect.

How does one check out the coils on one of these? I have basic electrical knowledge but I have to admit these newer engine setups are quite different to the trucks/cars I've personally worked on (pre '76).

Yes.

Check for tracks on boot. Boots can be replaced separately. If there is a code, swap with a codeless coil and see if code follows coil.

I swapped the coils and then ran it and had the codes read to see if the "Misfire" moved, and to some degree, it did. It would throw a different cylinder, but when I reset the computer and ran the engine again, the "Misfire" would move, but #4 was consistent. The wires and boots looked good, but my oscilloscope showed me otherwise when I played with them (they were cross arcing just a bit). I replaced the two year old Toyota supplied wires and the problem was solved.
