cold + 4runner = no good!

hey guys! im new to the site, and im just having a problem that im sure someone can help me with, yes i already did a search but wasnt coming up with any answers....

well when its cold, i turn on the key, all the lights come on except for the check engine light.....then it wont start.
just turns over but wont go...

but when its warm, the check engine comes on and it easily starts no problem what so ever!

i also found out that if i leave the key turned on for 10-15 minutes, then the check engine light will come on...and it starts up!

any help would be greatly appreciated!

It seems like on my runner all the bad stuff--funny odd noises, trouble starting, and a loud, irritating speedo cable noise--all happen when it's colder than freezing out.

I would consider thinking about your battery. When it's real cold batteries have a harder time producing the same amount of power it would warm. If your battery is real old, try trading it out with a newer one next time it's real cold. I bet if it's not the problem you could return it no questions asked.

Just a suggestion, it may be a stupid response, but more absurd things have happened.

Before you go replacing the battery, or anything else, pull the it and have it tested . Your local parts store will do it for free.

Is your truck a 3.0? My 3.0 was doing the same thing it turned out to be the "Cold star sensor" (I believe thats what its called) Anyway it senses when the engine is cold and injects a shot of fuel, the way to check this is to pull the small hose that goes into the air intake and shoot a little brake cleaner or something in, if it fires right up that is your problem. The sensor is located on the back drivers side of the intake, there are two sensors there I believe it is the one closest to the fender. Good luck.

thanks for all the reply's guys! although i can't really try anything since its been warm out all week! i have to wait for some cold! and no its not the 3.0 litre...

ill post next time its cold out and i get to try something!
