Cold Starting.

My V-6 in the '94 4runner has been taking too much time to cold start. It used fire up right away, but now it drags on. I started a thread about chokes, but apparently with the FI, the cold start FI serves the purpose that a choke would. However, I also think the exhaust gives off an odor of a fuel mixture that is too lean. Any ideas here?

I'm not sure about the exhaust smell of a lean mixture. However, if you download the FSM in the sticky there are troubleshooting procedures for the cold start system. Using that will help fix your issue.

Now you are just being lazy son, FSM is 33.5 MB, can be dl'd in a minute or less. Or there is sticky on Yotatech which can bring you to an online version of the FSM. Go to it.

I know the 22RE has a cold start injector, not sure about the 3VZE. This could be the problem if it does.

Yes, we 3VZ-E people do indeed have a Cold Start Fuel Injector.

The manual is a zip file and that means expenses unzipping. Whatever, I got the resistance test out of the Factory, did it. I also got a sound test out of Haynes and did that. Both tell me that the Cold Start I. works. It must be something else. The engine runs fine once it warms up and starts when warm immediately. I may put in new wires. Can someone who knows something about car mechanics and not computers answer?

Unfortunately your issue seems to be a computer issue. Your engine will mechanically do what the computer tells it to do. The FSM has more in depth trouble shooting steps. There is a reason why I asked to sticky the FSM here. Your issue isn't something that we can troubleshoot for you over the internet. You need to physically download the FSM and follow the troubleshooting. It will help you isolate your problem. Your problem can be your cold start injector, cold start timing stiwch, water thermo sensor, wiring harness or your ECU.

After going over the ignition wires I found two that were bad. The rough riding I have been doing must have forced them to rub against something hot. Problem solved.
