I've decided on a 04 V6 4X4 Sport. I've figured out almost all the options I want, but the one thing I'm trying to decide on is the color. I know this is a really personal decision, but I'm looking to see what the general consensus is here. I want to see if there is any particular benefit in going either way. I've narrowed it down to Titanium Metallic and Galactic Gray Mica. Seems like the gray will show the dirt a heck of a lot easier, but both look great. Any input here?

Black is always black. Silver has many tones but they are also a dime a dozen out there. I ordered the Galactic after I had a chance to judge it in differnet lighting situations on an extended test drive. It doesn't look "prefaded" to me but rather it takes on different tints depending on the lighting (dawn vs. full sunlight vs. cloudy vs. twilight). You are getting more than one colour. More like a unique blend vs a straight monotone.

I went with the Galatic Grey for a few reasons:
-I wanted the non-painted cladding and I thought this was a good two-tone combination.
-I have had this color before on my trucks and I really enjoyed it.
-For a darker color, it does not show everyday road grime/dirt that bad; it almost camouflages it. Mud is a different story!
-Scratches don't seem to show up that bad.
-Almost any color accessories will match.
The silver color is a good choice for almost the same reasons. It will just depend if you like dark or light colored vehicles. I like dark better......Black is one of the nicest looking when they're clean. I just don't keep mine very clean!

I'd say go with the Gray. It's a color you won't see that often so your Runner will stand out a little more. I like both colors though. Silver hides dirt and scratches the best IMO. There is a GG 4Runner in the business park I work in and it looks great in the sunlight.

Handsdown, I think the best looking 4R is the Stratosphere Mica Sport. It's got the dazzel of black, but a different shade of pretty too. The downside being it's just as tough as black for hard to keep clean, and it likely is a 2 - 3 year color [availability].
I intend to keep my truck for [well] more than 2 - 3 years, so didn't want to chance 'dating' the vehicle in a discontinued color - silver will always be in the line. I work off-road - forever in the dust & mud - so a dark color jes doesn't make sense. I also like the true monochromatic looks w / the silver - matches with the roof rack, front & rear trim, etc.
Lots of silver 4Rs around? You bet, but good @ resale time. Plus,
us guys w / silver sports have formed a harmless little subculture forum here. We routinely send underground e-mails [can't be seen / read by anyone else] to one another. :cheers:

i had a 2000 4runner i bought brand new in black...nothin beats it when its clean, but its only clean for 5 minutes after you wash it....plus mine started showing swirl marks, had to wax almost weekly to hide them...now i have an 03 in silver....i can honestly say ill never buy another color! always looks clean, doesnt show scratches and swirls, and in winter i just blast it off with a power washer and it looks clean! bottom line is all colors of 4runner look good, just depends on how much time you want to spend keepin it clean!

My original choice for a 4Runner was pacific blue. They could not get a pacific blue V8 SR5, so they offered me a V8 silver sport for the same money. I took the sport, but was a little disappointed because everyone I know has a silver car/truck. Now that I look back, I made the smartest choice of my life. The silver looks great all of the time, even when dirty. You cannot see scratches. I also like the silver with the cladding.

Yep, and after you make the silver choice [or before] you realize, as silver goes, this one is really pretty. It's a high metal flake content, giving it a bright, icy look.
I used a good paint sealant on mine, and even after bad weather on roads, which equates to real bad work conditions for me - mud - I can hose it off @ home with a garden hose & it comes 90%+ clean. It is a cool color. And while I'm griping, the paint on this thing is just perfect. I know they laser them or something, but I've done this thing by hand plenty of times, and I mean there are NO paint imperfections.
sharp4runr - Glad i choked ya up there, but that tear was probably from your DC traffic! I went thru [around] it on my way to NYC, even in an "off" hour & it was get the gun bad. :eek2:
I avoided it like the clap coming back - I went the Eastern Shore!

I wanted to get one in Galactic Grey but their "Galactic Grey" looked like a navy color, and Toyota didn't have a pure grey color offered so I chose black.
Black's nice and awesome, although it requires more attention.

You all make such great points. I for one really love dark blue and the grey. But when it came time every dealer around here had sold out of those colors with the sports packages and options i wanted. So to get in on the 2.9% finance deal i took a black sport 4x4 v8.
It is hard to keep clean, but after a good wash and because i park it in a garage at night it looks great for days on end. Just have to dust it off with one of those dusters for cars i bought at dealership. Also, maybe i am wrong, but for me it seems that black will always be an easy color to touch up or fill scratchs and such. Also, not to bag on silver, it does seem like every car on the road(at least around here) is either gold , brown or silver.
What it really comes down to it you have to make a choice and live with it. Yoou cannot go wrong, after all you have already made the best choice of all, you choose a 4Runner.

Since we were more interested in the options on the 4Runner, the color was pretty much secondary. We had decided what color(s) we would not take rather than the one we had to have. The main issue for us was getting a 4WD 4Runner with the side air bags and side curtains. While this combination looks fairly straight forward, it was hard to find. I couldn't (and still can't) understand why a SUV of this magnitiude and class would have side impact protection as an option. Nonetheless, we found a titanium metallic one and absolutely LOVE it! My next SUV (maybe Lexus) will be silver as well.

I got Titanium Metallic because mom liked it & didn't like my choice of Galactic Grey.
I thought I felt regret after, because I saw a lot of Galactic Grey & wished I had gotten it. Saw a V8 Limited w/ Nav in that color & was drooling like krazy, took massive amout of pictures. The lady opened her window & asked me why I'm taking a pic of her truck haha
Anywho...as time went by, I'm glad I have Titanium Metallic. It doesn't look too well in the day time, but it's gorgeous at night.
You see a lot of cars in silver & they are beautiful!!

For a 4Runner, since you most likely won't always keep it clean I think titanium metallic looks the best and that's the color I chose. I love it! If nautical blue metallic were an option, I'd have been stuck between it and titanium for colors because I have a love for the color blue, especially the darker blues.
