My friend, who was on a motorcycle, rode on up ahead and said there was spot where some Jeep Rubicons made it, but I wouldn't be able to.

has anyone seen the ARB video of their 4runner following the Rubicon jeeps? it was very impressive! everything the jeeps did the 4runner was able to do. the video was aired on TV.

Hey, I was at Monarch Pass about this time last year with my 4r. A fun trail the next time you go would be Tincup pass trail. Fairly easy with great views. I wish I was there now!!

Was that at the mud bog? If so, may have been a good idea to turn around. The bog is fairly deep, but the rock crawling becomes substantially more difficult above there. It would be very challenging for a very experienced driver to get up that with a stock rig.

Edit: looking more closely at the photo, you should have been able to make it another mile or two from where you are in that pic. To the mud bog, anyway.

I was up there a couple of weeks ago. It's very beautiful up on top (well over 12000ft). Ran it from Aspen to CB with a detour up into Montezuma Basin.

Another beautiful one that you should have been able to do if you're careful, is to link up Imogene Pass with Ophir. It goes over 13000 ft from Telluride to Ouray. It has a little pucker factor to it. So if you're bothered by narrow shelf roads, you might not enjoy it.

My dad has a 2004 Rubi. I can go many places he can't :biggrin2: But then my rig is modified & his isn't. However, with just lockers front & rear and the same size tires, I'd say it would be a pretty good tradeoff between what one could and the other couldn't. He definitely has a better departure angle.

Last spring I went wheeling in Moab with him, two other Rubi's and a 71 Bronco on 37" tires with Atlas T/C & lockers front & rear. I only had front locker at the time, and 32"s. The bronco was the only one that I couldn't always keep up with (departure angle again, due to tire & lift height). And the bronco was not a daily driver!!! Pics here. Oh, yeah. The white jeepster was amazing. He has open diffs, but 50 years of experience wheeling.

The mud bog looked passable, but it was further on ahead that my buddy on a motorcyle said it looked to rocky.

I did the Ophir Pass and there is a certain pucker factor if you've neve done that type of offroading; which I never had. But, it was awesome!

I did the Ophir Pass and there is a certain pucker factor if you've neve done that type of offroading; which I never had. But, it was awesome!

You would have definitely puckered at the top of Pearl, then. It's pretty tippy and up high on the side of the mountain. If you roll it, you won't stop rolling for about 800 vertical feet.

I tried to get the camera as level as possible. It was in the middle of a thunderstorm.

we ran the same pass almost exactly a year ago as well. also did Imogene pass, muddy but fun and faily passable in a bone stock 4R. one other fun thing to do is use your 4R as a "lift ticket" and bomb back down the passes on mountain bikes.

oh one more thing, if you are ever in that area again, you should check out Alta Lakes, it's well worth the trip. the drive up to the lakes is awesome in itself, but the lakes are breathtaking.

Where do you mtb near SA? I've been to Waco to Cameron Park and near Austin, to JJ's Rockin Ranch(?).

I ride mostly at McAllister Park, right next to SA International. Canyon Lake and Government Canyon are also good. I miss the Dallas trails, Northshore, Erwin Park, and Rowlet. Have you ever ridden near Telluride?
