Compensation for Shoddy Work

I don't think I would pin this one service guys sloppy work on the whole auto industry and America's work force in general.

Can't we? Using automotive service depatments as just one example, don't these types of problems and issues seem to be quite common? I never stated that there is nobody left who takes pride in excellent work, but it certainly seems to be less and less of a priority.

The fact is, most people I know are not comfortable taking their brand-new vehicle into a dealership for service, repairs, or anything for that matter, because we have ALL experienced these types of nightmares, and share them in frustration.

There are 3-4 TSB's that need to be done to my rig. The only reason I haven't taken it in is because of the fear of getting something back that will be a bigger problem.

I think it is a corporate conspiracy. Less warranty visits means more $$.

When I take my rig in for any service it seems like the writer is always trying to talk me out of my problem. Like it doesn't exist, or they don't really want to spend more than 5 minutes looking for the root issue. They can get my car in and out in 30 minutes and make big profit per vehicle serviced. If they keep it for any length of time, diagnostic troubleshooting or less profitable warranty work, they lose more money.

The dealer service bay has turned into the drive through at McDonald's. Sloppy work, where numbers are more important than quality.

Of course, there are exceptions to this statement...in another world.

Gonzo, to answer your 1st ? about compensation; had a similar experience with a dealer burning a hole in my sequoia hood. They repainted it 3 times and still never got it right. I ended up selling a 1 year old sequoia as i was that pissed off and got the 4 runner but I did manage to convince the dealer to put a free clear bra on my new 04 runner despite the fact I got it from a broker. They did and I felt vindicated...

they did it!!

got a new hatch back installed yesterday. they took it off a new '04 4runner and are going to sell the other one with my screwed up hatch as new. i was a little worried that they were going to put an '05 on the back, the bubble in the rear-wind-defelctor sits up high enough to rub against my long board.

anyways, its in. it took a while, but i am happy that i made the fuss.

Here is AZ sloppy work is the norm. I had a small scratch painted, now I have a Orange peeled door.
The scratch was only a inch long, but most of the door was repainted, dirt and all. Then, they so
called washed the T4R and spread sanding dust everywhere. Under the hood, door sills and etc.
It took 4 days to get it done and no loaner. I still have some missing parts from some dealer
add-ons, after 3 months of promises. Guess I will have add some more pressure.

If you come to AZ from other parts of the country it is really hard to accept the poor quality of work here.

Pity the poor customer who is going to get landed with that - I am sure of course that they will point it out before completing a deal :boink:
