Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

I've looked into aftermarket MOOG Coil springs for an `07 FJ, and places like rockauto have them for about $100 front and rear. I know a lot of y'all have a pretty low opinion of aftermarket parts, but are they at least comparable to OEM springs?

You see my conundrum, what would you do?

$100 for new Moog spring, definitely worth a try. There were a few posts about Moogs several months back. If I wanted FJ oem rate I would have no issues getting the Moogs.

V8 Daystar 2.5/1.5, FJ Coils, Bilstein HD's 285/75/18(33"tire) = 4.5" net lift

This is info on a V8:

Not much info out there on the V8 with the following done:

FJ Cruiser Coils front and rear
Tacoma Bilstein HDs fronts
FJ Cruiser Bilstein HDs rear
Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer lift
BFGoodrich All-Terrain TA KOs 285/65/18 = 33" tire
American Racing 901 Wheels in 18x9 with a 00mm offset
44psi

Tires are flush with fender, had to remove front flappers, and move fender liner up a little bit.

Concerns to many when i did my search was, vehicle will not align correctly.

Well, it does.

Here is my alignment sheets, the first one is from the day after my suspension was put on 8/28/12 @8am

Went wheeling this past sat 10/19/13 and came out with the wheel cocked to the side... LoL :)

Aligned it again this morning.

Skeptical? Well dont be. It will line up!

cv binding after FJ springs and 5100's

Well, I finally got the '07 FJ springs and new 5100's front and back installed on my 05 4runner SR5 w/ V6. I set the 5100's at the .85 level and it leveled the front and back out with a 3/4" front rake. I really love the ride improvement over stock suspension.
While the truck was still on the lift with a full droop on the front I rotated the wheels by hand and noticed there is a slight binding on the cv joints half way through turning the wheel on each side. It probably lifts the axel's about 1/2 an inch to get through the bind each time.
I am really not an off-roader except some dirt trails to get to my favorite fishing hole. Do you think this is a concern? Should I drop to the stock height on the 5100's or maybe drop the front diff about an inch?

Thanks
Tony

Tire Size for FJ's and 5100's at 1.75

I've seen a stock height 4th Gen on 275/70 17 (supposed no rubbing). So, in theory, I should be able to fit 285/70 17 on my 4th Gen with FJ's and 5100's set at 1.75, right? I've searched and searched, but can't find anyone with with this same suspension set up on anything bigger than a 265/70. My SCS Stealth 6 just came in too so, I'm thinkin they should give me a little more clearance to run a 285/70. Please post pics if there's anything out there. Thanks!

Fulltilt- I like your setup with the 1.75 on the front. I've been thinking about doing the same. Have you looked into a rear spacer? Cornfed can make custom spacers from .5"-3". I was thinking a .75" for the rear, just wondering if you had any thoughts from your setup? Thanks!

As for the 285's, I don't think it will work, however I could be wrong and hopefully you will prove me wrong :) I haven't researched it to much, I think 275's will be it for me. I do recall mention of rubbing with lifts even higher than the FJ @ 1.75"... I think the body mount. I do know there are people with a 285 in the spare ocation, so at least some good news if you buy 5. Sorry I can't be of more help, hopefully someone else can chime in.

I actually have a similar setup with Bilsteins set at 1.75 and FJs springs at four corners. I thought about the .75" Cornfed rears. I bought them about a month ago and they are still in queue to be installed together with airbags. They drilled the center hole for the airhose in the spacer at no charge.
I will post an update once installed. It may be December when I have some time though.

Thanks, I have a feeling I may end up with 265's because tires are limited in 275's and most of them are E load rating. Cooper has an A/T that's a C load rating, but from what I've heard it's also a discontinued tire. If I ever blew a tire, it'd be tough getting a matching replacement. I don't want to go up to 2.5 on the 5100's with chance of limiting travel/alignment specs, making a stiffer ride and the likelyhood of having to add UCA's. I hope to have pics next week...

Thanks Tony for the info, that would be great to see your setup after the install of the rear spacer. The few measurments I've seen here, the front isn't to much higher at 1.75 ~.5". I think the .75" will look good without very noticable forward rake, like stock.

I agree with you on the 2.5, I don't want the issues or have to spend the extra money on UCA's either. I think you would have to go with the toytec 3" lift if you really want 285's. I have Dynapro's 265/70/17's and have been really happy with them. They fill the wheel well nicely at the .85 and should like good at 1.75 also, I have seen a few pics on here and i liked it. I had to push the front fender liner forward, no trimming needed and I installed spidertrax. I love the stance

You can get the Firestone Destination AT in a 275/70/17 and C load range. It's a very good all terrain tire (ranked #1 according to Tire Rack's surveys). 265/70/17, 255/75/17, and 275/70/17 are all a good fit with your lift.

Thanks for the input, ARK_SWAP_RIDER. The Firestone Destination was another consideration, but I've never been a modern Firestone fan, which is why I considered the Coopers. I wanted Silent Armors, but they don't seem to be available anymore. Not even on the GoodYear site. I will decide tonight...

So I've been holding off mounting these because I need to drill a bigger hole in the rear shock mount since the rod is larger than the shock for my year 4runner. If I drill it out to make these rear shocks fit, then what do I do when I want to replace the rears with a different aftermarket shock? Not too sure I want to enlarge that hole. 4

Opinions?

I did FJ / 1.75 up front with 1" Cornfed in rear (also FJ/5100) and I think the stance has settled to be perfect. If I were forced to move in one direction from 1" on the rear spacer, I would go bigger.

Bought the same set-up as you, minus the rear shocks for exactly that reason. I chose to go with KYB Excel-G shocks. Its a good shock and decent price(I stumbled in to two for the price of one at AutoZone). I scrapped the XREAS and needed something quickly and so far I am very satisfied with the ride and handling. Just stacking my pennies until I can do 5100s....

*I also have the custom sway-bar end links installed, which helped handling tremendously.

*My coils/springs were from a 2012 Trail Teams edition w/ 4k miles

Precisely why I went with 5100's from the start, even though I did get a full set of FJ shocks with the spring set. I didn't want to have to modify the truck to fit FJ shocks.

I'm VERY happy with the stance and ride! I did the fronts at the top setting and 1.5" Daystars in the rear.

I have a 2003 SR5 4wd. I have a line on some springs and Bilstein TRD red shocks from a FJ Cruiser (2008 or 2009). Will these be a direct replacement? that height increase will they provide. How are the Bilstein TRD Red shocks? Thanks Phil

Has anyone used new FJ springs on their 4runner? I really don't want used springs and I can get a brand new set of Moog replacements for $133 out the door from advance auto.

I have a 2007 V6 SR5 and plan on setting a set of Bilsteins at 1.75 with no rear spacer. if I get bro lean then I will install a spacer. Rears are tons easier to install than fronts.

Tires are likely going to be 265/70/13 destination AT or BFR rugged terrain. I wanted to go with BFG AT KO and do a straight shameless gaterose close, but I drive a lot of highway miles and road noise and ride are at a premium.
