Basically, I wanted the rear tail lights (clear plastic, black housing) w/o having to pay what I perceive as a highly coveted but very EXPENSIVE cosmetic swap.
I did some internet research on the www.hiluxsurf.com website and decided I could do this.
So here I go, removed the assembly, heat up the oven to 225 and toast the beotch for 10 minutes. There was no way in hell the adhesive was going to seperate from the housing and the lens. Cranked up the oven to 375 and let her roast for an additional 15 minutes and I found the lens began to separate on the horizontal sides. Everything quickly cooled down so I toasted her some more and pulled her out and decided to use a butter knife to try to seperate the top and ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL BROKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKE friggin loose when the plastic just snapped all over the gosh daaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuum Place!
As furry set it, my blood began to boil. Thank goodness my Girlfriend was not around as the cat was the one to receive my verbal outcry (and he was all paws and butt trying to get away). I think I just lost my patience but I damn sure did not expect the plastic to just crack. Cripe! Frank me running.
Of course I clicked on many, I mean many websites to gather information and well, I just F'd it UBAR.
Bottom line... I placed an order for the OEM Toyota of Japan Hilux Surf front and rear lights. Pissed me off. I wasn't so much worried about the expense of replacing just one tail light but I know that when I have it in my mind that I want something (the clear lens, w/ black housing look), I will not stop thinking about it until I have it.
On the lighter side of my lovely evening... my girlfriend came home, saw all the coronas and my somber attitude and broke out some domestication skills that eased my attitude and readied me for an excellent nights sleep!
