Considering the 4Runner

Just want to introduce myself real quick. My wife and I bought a 2010 Rav4 Sport V6 (at 0% financing for 60mo!) back in March and have been real happy with it in the first (and only 5000) miles its been driven. We are using it to get around on the weekends, and she is still driving her 2004 Corolla S w/ 110,000 miles to and from work.

I'm now looking to jump from my 2004 Mazda6 V6 to a 2010 or 2011 4Runner in a couple months. Its been a great car, but its got some body and minor suspension issues that I don't want to dump any money into. Its also not 4wd and thats something I need now during our winter months in northern NJ. Went to the dealer on a Sunday to check out the 4Runner in person and I'm overly impressed with the agressive stance and appearance.

Only things I'm concerned with are the gas mileage and whether the Trail edition will become available in my area. My Mazda gets about 20-25 MPG (with 2-3 agressive stints per wk when safe conditions exist) and Rav4 gets about 25.x MPG (driving with the toe, never really flooring it) in my area with my driving, but I want to make sure that the 4Runner will truly get the 20-21 MPG that I read about here. Also, I'm already aware of how Toyota regionalizes the option packages in certain areas around the US, even around certain times of year. Are those MPG estimates accurate for the 4Runner?

If you do 90% highway driving then yes. I've been getting about 15-16mpg doing 90% city driving. Not a lot of traffic, just red lights. Your not going to get a consistent 20-21 mpg in any type of city driving situation. If a high mpg is what you're after move to a smaller vehicle.

We have only had our 2010 SR5 for about two weeks now, and we are really pleased with the truck. The MPG estimates are very accurate. We just took a trip to Va. Beach for an air show (5 hour drive) and we avg. about 21mpg for the whole trip. We drove down RT-13 at 60-65mph and actually achieved 22mpg. and I really did nothing special as far as my driving style. On the way home we picked it up some and were cruising around 65-70mph and we were still around 21.5mpg. I am really impressed with how easy it is to achieve those mpg #`s. I am sure if you drive in the city a lot it will go down to 16-18mpg.
I say buy the truck, you will love it!

I have a 24 mile commute each direction. My morning commute is at freeway speeds. My evening commute is 75% bumper-to-bumper. I get 18-19 mpg commuting. I just got 21 mpg on a 240 mile, all highway speed (60-80 mph), trip this last weekend. These numbers are all hand calculated at each fill up. The 4R now has 2500 miles and the mpg numbers have been going up as I put the miles on.

I am getting almost 17mpg with 80% city driving; so I would say they are pretty accurate.

I think its all depend on your driving style, if you are hard on the gas then you will get less.

I got 18.5/mpg with 70% Freeway and 30% City but freeway in S. California its worse than parking lot in some of the States.

My commute is about 25 miles, half rural @ 50-60 mph, town for about 3 miles, then highway for about remainder @ 70 mph. I'm going to use a MPG app on my phone to determine what my real MPG is currently, but I do know that its very consistent each week.

They can ALWAYS transfer a car or order it. I wanted a LTD in Black with the tan interior and the sliding tray and it took the dealer 3 weeks to get it (fresh of the boat). The big question is if you want to drive one off the lot or if you can be patient to get precisely what you want.

Toyota does offer different incentives by region. I live in Indy and got a much better deal in Cincy due to the incentives offered there. It was worth the drive for me....

Thank you for all the replies. I just realized that my Mazda has the same EPA rating of 17/23 that the 4Runner has. That would be awesome if it would be the same fuel consumption as what I'm getting now. I'm also making a bigger deal over the gas mileage than I need to be.

Just need some of these dealers to start receiving 2011 stock...although I'd be happy to take a 2010 trail with kdss if I could get a great price on it.
