Converting SR5 to TE: Can any SR5 parts be salvaged?

For those of you that have done this conversion...changing out the bumpers, sills, fender flares, etc.....is there anything that can be used from the SR5 parts....or is it best to just order everything new regarding TE parts.

Example: The exlopded view of the front bumper TE....will every single part be needed or can some of this TE stuff be snapped onto existing SR5 parts.

Pretty much the only thing salvageable is the blue retainer clips. Other then that, you need to order everything off of harpers thread

Gotcha. I've been pricing it out....apparently prices have gone up about $20 average per part compared to Harper's older thread. Guess I'll start ordering!

There was a guy on here that wanted to buy mine a few weeks ago. Only problem was he was in CO, and I didn't want to go through the hassle of shipping it. Plus you never know it may come in handy at some point.
 
I chopped mine up and put it on the street for trash pickup.:mmph:

Re: parts that you can re-use...I reused the rubber pieces that are on the rear door trim pieces (had to trim and modify), some blue fender flare clips, some orange fender flare clips, some black fender liner retainers, some larger bumper cover retainer clips (also blue, but different than the fender ones), and the "clip-in" plastic pieces that hold in the bumper cover. I think that was all. Harper's thread didn't have the blue and orange fender flare retainer clips (unless he added it later). So, make sure to get plenty of those!

Too lazy to look up all the proper part names. PM me if you want em...but please read my info I put into Harper's thread first.
 
I've got part numbers for most all the clips and other things you need in my build thread too.

it's in there somewhere, but I'm too lazy to dig through it all right now haha.

I noticed that today when looking through parts. There were trail parts for 2010 SR5.

I'm only having difficulty with a few items:

Front Bumper Cover - missing the part#. On the toyotapartsales website, they have it listed as "Cover Front Bumper L/P" for $198.65. Hope thats the right one.

Rear Bumper Cover at Toyotapartsales.com - there are two parts here: 1.) Rear Bumper Cover aka "Center Cover Trail" for $97.36 and 2.) Rear Bumper Cover aka "Bumper Cover Trail" for $225.24. Guessing i need both.

Check here: Jangoforhires TE Conversion Write Up. These were all the valid part numbers when I did it.

Thanks to Jango for the updated part number and I updated the first post in that TE part swap sticky thread with new front bumper cover part number .

Another thing to note and others have commented....when the part is as huge as a front or rear bumper cover,the oversize shipping surcharge would negate any savings from buying online.Also some online dealers wouldn't even ship something that big and they had to buy from a local dealer.

I would second this, I tried to order them online and (I don't remember the exact site...I think it was associated with toyota of dallas) wouldn't even ship them - regardless of if I payed a higher shipping price. So I called around locally and ended up getting a pretty good deal on both front and rear from a dealer about 45 minutes away from my house.

Any idea what you paid? I'm about to go over to my local Toyota dlr right now.
 
Camelback Toyota's online part sales will ship it to you via freight, but it will cost over $200. But this was still cheaper for me than going through local "Stealership". Even so, I would still recommend buying the large parts through a local dealer and see if they will come down on price. This way, you can easily inspect it before paying for it, etc. Had mine been screwed up, I'm not even sure how I would have returned it without spending a fortune to ship it freight. As a side note, Camelback did a fantastic job at protecting all the parts in the one HUGE box that came right to my home.

One of the rocker panels I received from the dealer was full on dented.
I had all parts shipped to the body shop working on my truck at the time. The idiots threw away all the shipment boxes and than realized the dent.
I spent an hour on the phone with the lady (Dallas Toyota) from Harper' thread. She wouldn't replace it, I was pissed to say the least.

Luckily they were able to order the part from another dealer and return to them the damaged part.

Large items are tough. Maybe you can inspect right on arrival.
