I know this shouldn't be on the 5th Gen forum, but I feel more comfortable with the people I have chatted with on here lol.

Has anyone went through Cord Blood Storage with their new born?

If so, can you recommend a reputable company? I have heard mixed reviews about Cord Blood Registry (CBR).

Call your local fertility clinic, they use cyoginics also and might have a local place that does it.
 
We used CBR. The doctors at the hospital do everything for you except fill out the packing slip. I still feel like its a waste of money, but my wife insisted. She did all of the research and CBR seems to be the best one going. Good luck with your new born:crybaby:

Seriously though, man. This is a truck forum. Why do we need to read about cord blood storage? It's like seeing a tampon commercial while watching an Ultimate Fighter event.

I really don't mean to flame you, but come on...keep that stuff in off-topic.
 
If it wasn't for someone storing cord blood, my son wouldn't be alive today. Even if you dont use it someone else can. Cord blood doesn't have to match anywhere near as closely as bone marrow.

There is plenty of **** that has nothing to do with 4R's here. Just dont read it if you don't want to see it :shrug:

Your argument is flawed, my friend. There isn't any difference between this thread and one of the spambots that post their ads in this forum. Why should we delete those threads? If we don't want to see them, we should just refrain from clicking on them. Oh well, I guess I'm in the minority on this one. Have fun with the discussion. :)

You compare a thread that has conversation about a topic that everyone here with children has dealt with and could potentially help another member to an ad trying to sell crap or steal your identity and you call my logic flawed?

Haha no, obviously this thread has more merit than a spambot thread. However, your argument of "don't read it if you don't want to see it" doesn't really make sense in my opinion. But it's just that...my opinion.

Anyway, I don't want this to go any more off-topic than it has, so please resume the original discussion for the OP's sake.
 
Just had my first kid a few weeks ago. As it was explained to me, it is very expensive to store your own cord blood. For some it might be worth it, knowing that you have your own cord blood available immediately if needed. For others it just isnt in the budget, especially when you are about to pay for the hospital visit, doctor's visits, newborn pictures, strollers, cribs, bottles, etc, etc.

There is an option where you can donate the cord blood. If you donate, you are put on a "preferred" list, which basically means you dont have to wait as long as those who did not donate. In addition to it being free, if you ever need it and your original donated cord blood is still available, you can choose to use what you donated!
 
I know I am old now, I have never heard of this. I still do not know what it is for. I am glad my child raising days are long gone.
 
Cord Blood Banking is basically referring to collecting and storing the blood from the umbilical cord during the birthing process in hopes that the banked blood along with future advancements in tech, science, and medicine will allow the cord blood and its stem cells to help cure or prevent some medical conditions. I believe cord blood as our current state of medicine is actually used in curing one medical condition. I don't know what it is off hand but I'm sure if you did a search, you'd be able to find it.

It's almost like an insurance policy. If you don't ever need it and if tech, sciene, and medicine can never make a use out of it, you'll have lost that money to collect and store the blood. if one day, you can use it, you'll be glad that you have it because it'll will be a perfect match for that particular child and family members may even be able to use it since the blood is similar in ways to other family members, particularly parents and siblings.

To add on to this wonderful bit of information:

In addition to storing the cord 'blood', some companies like Cord Blood Registry will store the cord "Tissue" as some debate that has more of an accurate DNA "code". Just something more to think about.

In my research I came across this website which has proved to be loaded with helpful information about Private Vs. Public, Different company reviews and other related discussions.
