***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

OMG....you guys won't believe this.

I originally went in on June 5, 2015 for my inspection. I have called several times in the past only to be told that "I was #xx on the list" and they are getting them in very slowly.

So fast forward to yesterday, I called to get status. The lady calls me back and informs me that they tried to call my cell 3-5 times in April and that since they didn't get a call back, they removed me from the list and there's nothing that can be done.

I can't believe that I've sat here patiently waiting for 2.5 years and now they are going to try to do this. I never received one call from the dealer about my dash.

Amazing....

Did they give yoou any paperwork or proof that you had the inspection done? If so I would contact Toyota Customer service with that info.

I'll have to look for any paperwork. I obviously never thought it would come to this.....but everything is documented here, thankfully.

Toyota is not going to care about any documentaion on this forum.

That being said when I got my dash inspected and accepted for the dash replacement, the Service Rep told me that he didn't have any paperwork he could print out for me and I asked him what was he look at on his computer screen, he said "Oh it's just the order info for the replacement dash..", I told him I want you to print out anything that is showing on any of his computer screen/s since he started on my dash replacement for my vehicle, he said he couldn't do that and I told him wasn't leaving until he did, and then he realized the only way I was going to leave was for him to do just that, so he did print out 3 pages of info on my dash replacement and I made sure there was my name and dates on all of them, I also made him signed and date all of them.

I also visited the dealership every week or so to check on the status of my dash just to let them know I'm here and you will not forget me either!!!

I go my dash installed within 3 months (inspected/ordered in mid-December 2016 and installed mid-February 2017) of taking it in for the inspection.

yeah, I guess I just saw it differently, I didn't want to have to stop in weekly.

I got my initial inspection in June '15. I called for status several time, but one in particular was in Sept '16. The service tech informed me I was currently #25 on the list for dash replacement however, they had only received 1 4runner dash that entire year. So I'm not sure that stopping in weekly would have helped in my case. But glad that it worked for you.

In the begging of this "ReCall" parts where in high demand meaning Toyota was only releasing 1 or 2 a day depending on the part number. There was a huge waiting line for these. Now that is over we have about maybe 6 or 8 (different vehicles) of them for customers waiting to come and get them installed.

A little over 6 months since my approval. New one swaps in next week.
Thank you Toyota, now please don't remove my cd-2 aux input add-on cable or do the engine disable upon braking firmware update.

They removed my aux cable and couldn't find it after the job was done and also did the brake firmware even though I told them not too :frusty:, you need to make sure you definitely tell them not to do the brake firmware, and then tell them again and again, I would make sure you see it stated on the work order and get a copy, not that you can get them to reverse it after it's been done, non-reversible once it's been done!!

I'll try of course, but they get paid some easy money to do the mod, just like the pedal cut.

Super aggravating.

Ugh

Thanks for the great information on this, I wish I had seen it sooner. I bought my 03 in December 2016 and just noticed the dash cracked a little bit the other day. I guess its to be expected for a 14 year old vehicle at this point.

OK, they did a nice job on the dash replacement. Three very minor screw ups that I've been able to fix.

But one pretty annoying problem remains: HVAC blower vibration now comes through the steering wheel. It is especially annoying at the two higher speeds. I'm guessing they left out something or mis-positioned something that prevents this.

Take it back and have them find the issue, worst they can do is screw something else up! :frusty::scared:

Opened the glove box today, well I tried. It would only open about an inch then hit something. Hard stop.

After a lot of fiddling and finally some force found the problem. Dash replacer left out the screw on the left that supports the upper secret slot shelf above the glove box. Can't get to this screw until the glove box is fully open. If the secret slot shelf drops half an inch it jams the glove box door but good.

Is it still possible to get your dash replaced mine started cracking about a week or 2 ago I even work at a Toyota dealership and I asked them and they said no.

Yes it is possible....BUT not for free any more, you would have to pay for it, the free replacement ended on May 31th 2017, if you didn't get it approved before or on that date you're out of luck.

Since you work for a dealership it's possible that you can get a discounted price for getting it replaced.

First drive during the daytime with my new (to me) '04 and I notice that it has a thin crack extending across the edge of the dash hood, just above the meters :tape:.

Any advice on the best way to prevent further cracking since I'm beyond the warranty period? Would love to prevent further degradation...

I wish I had a way to do this as well. The only thing that I have is the Lexol products.

Dashboard finally replaced

As several of you have posted, there is an issue with some of the dashboards in the 4th gen. Since i work from home my truck is parked in the garage 90% of the time and is very well taken care of. I never use any Armorall or any other chemicals on the dash. About 3 or 4 years ago it developed a 6" crack on the dash above the glove box. I paid an interior guy around $150 to fix it, thinking it was a random thing. Over the last 6 months i have cracks going all over my dash. Since mine is an '03, it is way out of warranty, but this is still unacceptable. Obviously this is a default in the dash material.

I just called the Customer Relations number and opened a Claim. After going through the whole deal, the guy said there wasn't any information from Toyota on this issue, so they couldn't do anything. He did say that if there was more claims towards this issue Toyota would be taking note and would probably do something. At this point all we can do is try with a joint effort.

If you have any issues with your dashboard cracking, without any previous damage, and would like to try to get it fixed call this number.

May 2015 when I applied for the replacement of my dashboard to my dealer. After several follow-ups from the dealership and reporting my case directly to Toyota, I finally got my dashboard replaced last February 12.

Replaced

They replaced my dash completely took about 6 months to get the dash in stock at my local toyota dealer. But didn’t cost me a penny. They didn’t even ask for the paperwork toyota randomly sent me telling me they would fix the issue that I never reached out to even have fixed. A+++ for toyota brand new dash just left a lingering smell for a few weeks from the new glue

I missed the recall because I just bought this truck a month ago and the previous owner didn't get it taken care of.

I have a small split on the top of the dash and was wondering if I can just put a bit of super glue in there to prevent it from going further and then apply the Lexol Vinylex?

Also, what's the out of pocket cost on getting this replaced anyway?

Thanks!
