i am just telling you what the tech has told me over the phone. i have not personally seen the crack yet, but when i do i will take a picture and post it up.

I hope you didn't go all full disclosure with them. "I hit a puddle, it stopped running. Please fix!" should be all that's needed. Quentin will tell you what happened later ;)

yes i told them the full story. i am the operating partner in the dealership so we are all working together to try and figure out what happened and why it did.

How? Short of missing a maintenance interval, clearly ingested water, clear evidence of being run low on oil or the valves having floated or some other over-rev condition (what'cha do to the ECU again?) that'll be a tough argument for Toyota to win.

It's not like this is a Jeep and you drove it, which they have called abuse in the past.

Post a pic. My money is on a casting defect. That sort of thing happens once in a while.
 
If this was caused by a manufacturing defect in the block, what would be the odds of this finally failing at the same exact time and place of him playing in "uncertain" deep water ???

You said you had some fender damage. Is it possible you did something that could have cracked the block shortly before you decided to rinse your tires? I can't imagine what that would be, but it just doesn't add up so far. Good luck!

A void in the block casting would make for a stress concentration. Hot engine + cold water + stress concentration = bad times. These blocks are a high pressure aluminum casting (you'll notice the surface finish is much different than the heads which are low pressure 6 piece die + sand mold casting), so voids are pretty rare. I'd definitely like to see pics.
 
Yes, thermal shock is a logical reason as to why it may have cracked, but would that explain why he said their was water inside the engine as well?

my opinion = NOT thermal shock
 
Really interested to see the pictures! Haven't heard of a 5th gen with a block defect if that was the cause. Probably more to this story.. :snacker:
