nope. had been running it easy all day. was running between 3k and 3.5k rpm when it happened.

If this is indeed why it cracked the block (as you state), you're story of only 15" of water crossing is IMPOSSIBLE, unless maybe you were doing 60+ MPH through it. Their is no way 15" of water even comes lose to making it in the airbox/engine, so something doesn't add up here to me...
In the OP's defense, it's possible that there is prior fender liner damage or something.
In only 15" of water you could take the damn fenders off completely and still not suck water in the intake (unless going FAST). Inlet is all the way up on top of the wheel well, 15" of water barely comes half way up on a tire. :shrug:
When hitting water at some speed it does bow and splash up pretty high.
