Practically did a spit take when I read this...

For one...I'm pretty sure the seller forgot to put the "1" in front of $4,600. For another, doesn't that look an awful lot like the "Limited" badge and not the SR5 badge?

I occasionally peruse CL looking for that unicorn 4Runner (oh, and anonymous sex), even though I'm really attached to my 3rd Gen and would have a hard time replacing it. However, for $4,600...what 3rd gen!?

I emailed the seller just now casually asking if it was still for sale for the listed $4,600. Who knows! lol.

Did you notice it was listed twice, with different views of the vehicle and a completely different description. I like the bit about having receipts for all work listed, but then nothing is listed.
These people crack me up.

No that's not it. these are scams. they list cars for ridiculously low prices and try to reel you in. not sure what the game is but it is unlawful for sure.
 
Probably a scam. Wait a bit and look again, it will probably be flagged. I found a 2000 in my local listings and the email they sent after I contacted them was a joke. Asking me to purchase it on ebay and then pay for shipping. Shipping? It's local. It was flagged the next day as spam.
 
Oh! Well, that's interesting too! Haha, I wonder what the hell they're going to reply with then. I remember hearing an episode of This American Life a long time ago where there's a group of people that scam online scammers. It was awesome and hilarious and I wish I had the courage to do it.
 
It's usually the fake ebay thing as mentioned, or they try to send you a check for more than they are asking for and they want you to send them a check for the difference. The sad thing is, there are actually people out there who fall for it.
 
Definitely scam. Really common unfortunately. Figured it would have died off by now but guess not

Update: no email back yet! I really want my $4,600 2010 SR5 w/ Limited badging! I'm going to see how far I can take it without ever exchanging money. Probably not very...

I've definitely seen scam postings before, but this one looked either like a mis-typing of the price, or someone off their rocker. Definitely makes sense that it's a scam though given how much you guys see this sort of thing.

I actually have had this happen a few times on vehicles I'm selling. I have this former boss that I hate, so I always give his name and address for them to mail the check to. If anything, it costs them a little (they send the checks UPS or FedEx) and it surely aggravates by ex-boss to get checks arriving that he has no idea what to do with.

The last time, the guy kept emailing me asking if I had cashed the check and when I was going to send him the balance, I kept ****ing with him and dragged it out for quite a while. He began asking for tracking numbers to prove I had sent him the money (which of course I hadn't) and I would send him what were supposed to be screenshots of a tracking number but were actually just black images; he spent like 3 days trying to explain to me how to send a screenshot until he must have finally figured out I was ****ing with him and gave up. Another one threatened to "call the FBI" on me because I had "robbed him", this was after a good month of me ****ing with him. I just sent him a picture of my badge with my middle finger blocking out the agency name. He stopped, too.

It's the little things.

Why do they make it so obvious? If they posted a fake ad with a price that was significantly below the current market value, but still sounded reasonable for a motivated seller, I would expect more people to fall for it, at higher prices. Instead, we get pics of new vehicles for $4,500 and nonsense about having to sell the vehicle before being deployed to the middle east.
 
Once looked at a land rover on cl. It was really nice and really cheap. When I questioned the owner about it he said it was his kids and he was killed in iraq and could not bear to look at it anymore. When I said I wanted to look at it he changed his location to being in florida with the truck not ne ohio. It also came back with a bunch of damage on the carfax. When I quized him about this all communication stopped. I knew it was a scam. Just wanted to see how long I could stretch the dude out before he gave up on me. lol
 
I think I might engage this scammer, just to see what spin they are working on...

Wonder if they can ship it to me to Nigeria as I am there currently, sorting out the recent inheritance I just got :lookout:
 
We had an instance around here where someone posted a vehicle for an incredibly low price. They found an interested buyer, and asked him to bring CASH. Met the seller in a remote parking lot, and robbed him of a couple thousand dollars.
Be careful out there.
