crankshaft sensor wiring

have been putting my engine back together and noticed some exposed wires on the crank sensor so i started to cut away at the harness to see what was exposed and this was under there. i can repair the exposed wire but was wondering what the deal was with the wire its going through??? found it weird the wires for the connector are going through another wire.

Interesting. I recently repaired mine from rodent damage and I do not recall seeing that. if its braided outer wire then it's ground for shielding against EM noise. Not uncommon on sensitive sensors.

As mentioned, the outer wire is to shield electrical noise. Cut, splice, solder and use heat shrink with sealer in it over the solder joint. Tape the shielding wire back in place. If it runs without issue then you should be good.
