Crappy Canadian Law!

Normally I don't complain much about the laws we have, sure there is the odd one which I don't agree with but generally they dont really hinder me so who am I to complain. This was until I went to my dealer the other day to have them print out the previous service records for jobs that had been done on my 4runner before I bought it.

They'll tell me if any "campaigns" (recalls) have be carried out but they won't print any service records that are dated before I bought my truck. This really suprised me because I heard of so many people doing it online. Apparently one of Canada's privacy act makes all of the previous service records confidential. WTF, I can understand that the previous owner's info would be confidential and maybe even how much money was spent would be private, whatever, I dont really care about that info, I just want to know what kind of maintenance was done to the truck.

I've join an online owners club called "Toyota Club" or something and it tells me that the last time my truck was serviced was at 194,xxxkms but I doesnt tell me who, where or ever what was done. I also tried join the american owners site but it doesnt recognize my VIN #.

What do you guys think, anyway around this or am I screwed!

I, too, was disappointed with the Toyota Club. It was useless for recovering that past info.

Dont give up!

Turned out to just be a crappy canadian dealer lol. I had the privacy problem with Cornwall Toyota, so I went to Hawkesbury Toyota and they printed the previous history for me no problem. As an added kick in the ass, Cornwall Toyota marks their parts up 40%. I got a lightbulb a Hawkesbury Toyota for $6 (list price, not discounted) which was $10 at Cornwall. Looks they lost a customer and Hawkesbury gained one.
