Crazydubman's 97 limited runner build

Thanks for the compliments. I wanted to keep everything with the front fenders as stock looking as possible. I think it worked out pretty well.

The fenders are gutted under the flairs (flairs are now bolted to the fenders along where the top clips would go), inner fenders were tubbed where needed, firewall was heavily "Massaged" and tubbed, and the washer tank is removed and charcoal canistermounts modified.

Definitely some work went into them.

I don't remember exactly what page i posted up what I did to the fenders but it was right after the pismo trip at the end of September last year.

The inner fender and firewall was finished up maybe April of this year which I included pictures in the thread.

Hey bud I was trying to find some pics if your tub job you did on your front fender wells. I looked and look but just couldn't find them.

I found the pics of the flares on the earlier pages. I still can't get over how functional that is and how stock it looks. When you pulled all the inner plastic out do you notice a lot of dirt and debris getting by the crack in the door and also in the engine bay? I'm so close to just gutting all of it, but I don't want mud in the engine bay because of it.

This is what i am having a problem with now, after trimming away a ton of plastic inner fender. Now everything the tires throw up hits right inside the door pocket where the hinges are. It makes opening the doors have a rougher feel and i can hear the grit as the door pivots on its hinges. Not good for longevity. I am currently looking for a way to fill the void without causing any contact with the tire.

Truck is looking badass 'Dubman, You've got to let us know how hard you hit those skids this weekend? !

You should be able to hear in the videos as soon as they upload Haha. I think the staircase gave all of them including my rear links a good work out. Still haven't hit the front alignment bolt either. :moon:

Haha cool stuff, you must be a better driver than myself and BFAD. :lookout:

I need to call Any7 about a gas tank skid, I need one real bad. The pictures of the production skid look awesome.

Haha I don't know about being a better driver.

Definitely give any7 a call and order one up. Mine is holding up very well.

Nice pics and videos Todd! Bummed I missed this one, but hopefully sometime this summer we can get out on a wheeling trip together.

BTW, how did Drew do? I haven't seen him on the forums at all. Any damage?

Todd your truck and driving skill continue to amaze me.

So when and where is the next trip?

Thanks a lot Mikey. I still have lots to learn, but its definitely been a wild journey the last year with this 4runner. :thumb:

Next trip may be in October as I have a ton of stuff going on with wedding planning through the end of August.

I will definitely update you on when it will be.

Drew did great. No damage what so ever. His runner had the clearance needed to get through the trail with some careful spotting.

Hey Todd, unrelated to your shenanigans but is Vimeo any faster than YouTube. I hate loading to YouTube, it takes for freaking ever.

Vimeo is faster. Drew uploads all his videos on Vimeo. That is why most of them are hosted there. He seems to get a lot of video of my runner each time we go wheelin so I let him do the uploads. :clap2:

WOW. Just finished reading your entire build. 32 pages... check, only took me 2 days haha.

I have some questions specifically towards the SAW.

First of all the ones marketed for the 3rd gen 4runners what are there exact specs? 2.5X?13

I noticed several pages back when you were dialing in the coilovers you mentioned that maybe you'd look into a slightly longer spring rather than put so much preload into them. Is that even possible with that size shock? I had some 2.0X6X14 FOA coilovers on a different truck and 14" was the maximum size spring that would even fit.

But based on a lot of pics i'm seeing on 4runners with coilovers it looks like most of them could make use of a spring 1-2" longer and not have so much preload. Why wouldnt these companies already put on the longest fitting spring in the first place? taking out most of the preload.

I also find it kind of strange that SAW's coilover for the 4runner use a 13" spring because most springs come in 8,10,12,14,16 etc. Ive never seen a 13" spring for a coilover. On SAW website they dont even list a 13" spring in their spring section if you wanted to buy another one. Does anyone know if SAW would offer you to use a different rate besides 650 and 750... what if you wanted 600?

did great, had a blast :)

for me vimeo is way faster, youtube takes way to long for a 4 min video.

Whats the part number for the SAW extended travel version. I dont see anywhere that they have a specific coilover for the 4runner listed as "extended travel".

Icon on the other hand, I can clearly see one is listed as standard and the other is extended travel.

I took J-Money's advice and went with the taco 2.5" extended ones. They don't have a listing for the 4runner on the extendeds for some reason.

I purchased mine through Bilstein Shocks, KW Suspensions and much more: eShocks.com

eshocks.com: Sway-A-Way RaceRunner 2.0 / 2.5 Bolt-In Coilover Series:

Toyota Tacoma 96-04 13, Uniball Upper Control Arm (UCA) 650lb $497.50 $447.75
Part #: SAW-56000-108-5LT
Shaft Diameter: 7/8"
Diameter: 2.5"
Reservoir: Internal

Pricing is $447.50 each so $895 for the set.

the "Upper control arm" designation is what the extendeds are labels under because you need aftermarket arms to not over extend the ball joints.

Hope that helps ya out.
