Crazydubman's 97 limited runner build

$50 bucks for 4 bushings... Ouch. Looks like it will be cheaper to just run the 3/4" heims and make my own panhard haha.

I need to look into this more.

Well here are the pictures as promised.

First up is the brake swap.

stock setup

After the first embedding process. These pads were smoking up a storm when I was done with them haha.

Next up is the rear suspensions
Daystar spacers and factory 06 4runner shocks and swaybar endlinks. (About 2" more travel than stock).

Now the after

2013-01-19_17-05-11_453.jpg~original

Little weird with how the axle is sitting in this one... That axle sure does swing out drooped like that. Also note the new Toytec stainless braided brake like thats 4" longer than stock.

And a comparison shot of the shocks. (Factory 06 compared to SAW 2.0 extended travel 06 4runner shock)

ResizedImage_1358785694391.jpg~original

You have all seen springs before so I will just tell you haha. The OME 861's were about 1" taller than the factory sagged out springs and 2.5" daystar spacers combined.

And a little before and after shot.
Before

After with about 300lbs extra added to the back. (4 beadlocks, factory spare, trailer spare)

And at some point this little guy decided to hitch a ride... Don't think he was expecting what happened next haha.

oh those shocks are sexy! Could you PM me the price on those if you dont mind? Or post a ballpark here if you could. I have to think those would be a good setup as well to match up to my Icon coilovers. Whats the extended and collapsed length on them?

Nate

They are fairly pricy but in the ball park of the icons. However, if you already have Icons I would just get the 2.0 remote Icons for the rear (Take a look at the 2003-Current 4runner rear shocks). The pricing was pretty similar. You will have to drill out the upper mounting hole a bit to fit the upper bushing from the 06 shocks but you should gain a bit of extra travel providing you have a spring that is long enough.

I think these will end up being a bit longer though. Call wheelers and see if he can give you the lengths of the 2.0 Icons.

Look at the bottom of the page. You can see the shocks length next to a tape measure. they run $540 a pair. Extended is right around 25" but compressed is like 17"....
Sway-A-Way Coilover Shocks from Wheeler's Off-Road

I thought more about it after but they are only a little over 8" travel. They have a pretty long compressed length so we will see how they work out. Bump stops will be my friend haha. I need to limit up travel anyways so I don't have to do sheetmetal work on the rear quarters when I get my beadlocks mounted. I need adapters so they will be pushed out to about a 3" BS on a 16x8" wheel. With 35's Im definitely going to need to limit something.

Had I thought about it more I would have looked into making my own upper mounts and ran a set of 10" eyelet/eyelet mounting. They are the same compressed length as these. With a 4" longer bump I should be good to go though. Gonna try flexing it out to see where I have to go with it.

Hopefully that gives you the info you are looking for. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will try to help.

Looking good!

I talked to Icon yesterday. Looks like I will running all their stuff....as soon as I find that damn money tree. lol I am going to out the rear shocks on mine. Trying figure out what wheels to go with to try and get some more space between the frame and the tire, right now.

I think I missed but what size tire are you currently running?

Current wheel and tire specs are
16x8" 4.5BS Raceline Renegade 6's
305/70/16 MTR's

I should state that with the previous setup, I was rubbing on the gas tank filler guard. Not sure about now with the difference in the compressed length. Need to see if I can stop by Any7 today and use the forklift to see what articulated stuff will need to be limited too.

My new setup with the beadlocks will be about a 3" BS 16x8".
The adapters from 6x5.5-8x6.5 will be 1 3/8" thick and with a 4.25BS wheel will put me right there.

Outboarding would be sweet but you will need some decent spacers to give you the clearance. If you choose that route you can run 10" easy. Just have to take into consideration the length of the springs so they don't fall out on full droop.

Well I was able to stop by Any7 today to use there forklift to check for clearances.

Looks like it flexes pretty good. Remember the front is still stock with top outs :thumb:

Shock bump getting really compressed

Looks like I need about a 4" extension and probably pick up a set of the Daystar Comp bump stops.

Overall I think it does pretty well for a basic IFS setup. Can't wait for the rear links and the front suspension to get installed then I get to go test it out.

Axles will be pulled when I get the new boots in hand. Picking them up tomorrow after work when I drop off the spindles at the machine shop to have the ball joints pressed out and the uniball adapters pressed in for the UCA's.

Stay tuned.

lol, geeze your "drain bucket" looks like it's from WWI

can't wait to see the finished product. I'd love to have some Camburg UCA's. They ought to pair well with those SAW's. I love how the SAW's ride btw, it's night and day difference. Clean your truck fool!!
