Cruise control on a switch

Anyone ever done it?

I'm guessing since I deleted my ABS, my cruise won't work. Replaced clock spring, still nothing. No light, nothing.

Plan would be one on/off for power, momentary for accel.

Feasible?

It doesn't matter what switch is used to operate it; if it doesn't work now, installing aftermarket switches won't do anything either.
I'm not familiar enough with how the system works, but I'll bet you won't be getting the factory cruise to work without the ABS signals.

How are you running your speedometer? The cruise takes it's speed signal from the combination meter. A functioning ABS system is not part of the cruise control system per se. What year is your truck?

Maybe he has a 5-speed. Slushboxes get their speed signal from the trans. 5-speeds get it from the ABS sensor. You won't see that on the 2002 EWD because there were no 5-speeds in 2002. But then his speedo would not be working if he had killed the signal.

Really need to know year and transmission to go any further.

99. Speedo is run through the t-case using a taco speed sensor, wired straight into the speedo.

It's an auto, though it was run through the ABS.

Ok, it's not the speed signal then--unless somehow you cut the connection to the CC ECU when you rewired the speedo. I'd check that. That signal leaves the Combination Switch (dash module) on a green-orange wire and goes to Plug 3E Pin 8 in the Center junction box. That then gets split into five outgoing green-orange wires and the one on Pin 4 goes to the CC ECU.

Looking at my paper '99 EWD, the stalk signal switch sends FOUR different signals to the Cruise ECU.

Off Open to ground on T15 green-black of the CC ECU
On 0Ω to ground on T15 green-black of the CC ECU

RESUME/ACCEL 68Ω to ground on T3 solid green to CC ECU
SET 198Ω to ground on T3 solid green to CC ECU
CANCEL 418Ω to ground on T3 solid green to CC ECU

Yes, you can live without the stalk on/off and just use the dash one, if you short T15 to ground on the CC ECU and you really don't need CANCEL, just turn it off on the dash.

So you would need two momentary SPSTs with the appropriate resistors for SET and ACCEL. IF the stalk is the problem, that should work. HOWEVER, we really don't know what is the issue keeping the light off. The stalk should have nothing to do with it. It should come on when the dash switch is pressed, and that switch power comes straight from the GAUGE fuse. It does not go near the ABS system. CC ECU power comes from the ECU-IG fuse--likewise. The light is supposed to flash when the CC ECU reports a fatal issue, not remain off.

If I were you, I would verify 12V+ at T13 of the CC ECU when dash button is pushed (either white-red or yellow-red wire depending on TC) and 12V+ at Pin 4 yellow wire with key on. Those two should make the light go on, or at least flash, as far as I can tell.

You can check the dash bulb by applying ground to the red-black at T11 of the CC ECU.

I hope you have the V6. The four-banger is different.

You're amazing. Thank you. I'll start there.

I taught him everything! Well OK, not everything, just how to be annoying, or was that annoyed. Yeah, that's it, I taught him how to be annoyed by OP's that don't post the results of what we showed them concerning their problem. So if you solve it, be sure to post the result, or he'll be annoyed and his frame will start rusting...again.

I definitely will. I usually do. :)

Not only that, he might have to kick his dog.

Didn't read everything, but my ABS delete didn't affect cruise control. Electrical wiring diagram shows them as separate circuits.

I do if I want a correct speedo.

Good point. I probably just said that because I have no advice for you. It seems like after-market mods to cruise control/ABS messes everything up. I'm sure there is a way though!

Did I read somewhere that changing bulbs or anything to that affect could have an effect on the cruise?

FWIW, my HIL doesn't come on since I didn't my retrofit, and have to wire a resistor in somewhere, just haven't done it yet.
