2006 V8 4x4, so the newer 5 speed transmission.
Does cruise control function when manually selecting a gear other than D or 4?
I was towing my car trailer through some hilly sections earlier this morning with cruise control engaged, moving the shifter between D and 4. I noticed the trans had no trouble downshifting automatically to 3rd to maintain speed, but when I tried to preempt the downshift by manually selecting 3 prior to a hill the cruise control would cancel itself. I also tried putting the shifter in 3 and then setting the cruise control - it doesn't function.
So, is this behavior normal or is there something amiss? I think it's strange that cruise is maintained when manually changing between D and 4, but disabled when manually changing down to 3...maybe just the nature of the beast?
