Cruise Moab 2012

Hey guys/gals!

I was just looking at the Cruise Moab 2012 webpage and was curious if anyone from here was attending?? If so, let's see the list of trails you will be running. My plan was to go this year but it looks like my tropical vacation is going to interfere. Being the Moab virgin that I am, it would be cool to see what trails 3rd gen 4Runners are doing and with what kind of mods.....

On the plus side, I may be heading down with CT4WD to Hole in the Rock trail at the end of April! Fingers still crossed on that one.

Half of tacomaworld is going. I dont know how many guys have signed up, but I think its about a hundred.
 
Yah, I just wanted to see if anyone from T4R was going. Doesn't surprise me that there are 100's supposedly on TW attending.... Im going, 100% for sure CM13, maybe I'll have to do some detouring and meet up with some of the Cali/Utah T4R members.
 
I attended Cruise Moab the last two years but will be skipping this year. It is a good time especially if you haven't been to Moab before. I took my 100-series for the last two CM events but have run my 4Runner in Moab many times.
 
Not attending CM, but I went to high school in Moab, and my folks have a second house there that my family frequents nearly every month. If you had specific questions about trails, I could give you an idea if you'd have problems. Most of the really difficult obstacles have bypasses, so you ought to be fine on most trails. Wouldn't touch Upper/Lower proving grounds, Helldorado, or Pritchett. You'll want 37"+ tires and serious armor, but most others are passable with some sliders and a cautious line. Let me know if you have specific questions.

Nice, a 100 series owner! Be prepared for some questions...

I have been thinking about my Toyota future and have always loved the 100 series LC. I know it's way bigger than my 3rd gen, but it just seems super practical/more powerful/more comfy on the road as a DD. Your 4Runner is pretty much where I plan to be with mine in a year or two: 35's, geared, armored, etc.

How does your 100 compare to your built 3rd gen on the road and on trails like in MOAB? What mods have you done to the Hundy? If you could pick one or the other??

I have been lurking the 100-series forum on Mud for about a year and me and my GF have been thinking of pausing the T4R build and going for a 100 series. (I didn't say that....) Thanks for the input, it would just be nice to hear some feedback from someone who owns both!

'04 LC mods: Front/Rear ARB lockers, OME/Slee lift kit, Front/Rear Slee Off-road Bumpers, Slee Sliders, Slee skid plates, changed from OEM 18" wheels to OEM 16" wheels with Nitto TGs (285/75), ARB snorkel (wife demanded it), ARB drawer system, CB,...

The LC has done very well on the Moab trails. It did take a while to get used to the extra weight and size of the LC on the trails. That being said, once I got used to it everything was good. I would never take it on Pritchett or Behind the Rocks like I did the 4Runner but have had no issues on the moderate-level trails.

For me the two vehicles serve different purposes. IMO, the 4Runner is better suited for tighter, more technical trails. I wanted the LC for longer road trips, easy to moderate trails and just general exploring or overlanding type trips. I also wanted to maintain the road manners as much as possible because my wife will drive the LC regularly. The V8 power is great and with the '04 comes the 5-speed transmission...because of this I have not felt the need to re-gear.

There are some cons associated with the 100-series. Gas mileage isn't the best especially after bolting on a bunch of extra steel. It's big and it's heavy. Aftermarket vender availability/support is decent. I'm lucky in that Slee is only 1.5 hours north of me...easy drive to pick up parts or for some service work. Their products and customer support are outstanding.

I have considered selling the 4Runner. Not sure why I haven't considering there are two vehicles in my garage that are configured to do the same thing...generally speaking.

Which one would I pick between the two? If I had to pick only one it would be the Cruiser. Mainly because of the available space, power and comfort.

'Mud is a great resource. If you get serious, hop in and ask your questions. There are some really knowledgeable people there.

Your Cruiser looks great! The Slee stuff is sooo nice.

I was thinking about going to moab when i get my rig built. It seems like a great place. I just moved to SLC and theres a ton of trails here in Utah. Not to mention all the fishing places :D

Registration is long since been filled. It generally fills up about 30 days after we open it in Jan/Feb. Every year plenty come down and run "outlaw" or unregistered and that's fine. You just can't join the organized trail runs. But there is still Vendor Night and other stuff to do.

For anyone who has not been to Moab before this is a great family event to attend in the future. I should mention for anyone planning on it next year that it is a TLCA event and thus you need to be a member to register.

I have been on the planning committee in the past but not this year. I'm happy to help answer any questions anyone might have. I probably one of the few in our club (Rising Sun) who visits this forum regularly.
