CS130 alternator swap

I have been doing my research and have found many threads covering the swap, just wondering if any of you guys on here have done this swap and your personal thoughts.

This dinky 60amp alternator really needs to go asap. Electric fan swap + winch & installing a small stereo soon...so need more juice.

Would love to spring for a $400 200 amp alternator, but the Mazdaspeed/xmas shopping/being married is sucking all my mod moneyz :p

an extra 45 amps for $25-30 bucks sounds like a junkyard trip I wanna make.
found a guy who took the GM CS130 105 amp alternator and used his existing toyota v6 alternator bracket bolted to a 88-ish camry bracket and even used his factory belt.

Not a "go home and brag to wifey mod" but bang for buck and the easy bolt on bracket ...sounds like an awesome alternative.

I also considered the mr2 alternator swap, but the whole welding to your factory bracket turns me off. (do not know how to weld) :cry2:
& it's 5 amps shy of the cs130

Any thoughts/insight of this swap would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a 140amp OEM rebuild from Qualitypower - I know you said money was an issue, but it was worth it to me to be able to run OEM parts, and skip the bracket and harness mods. Ran a little over $200, I think, and I can't imagine ever needing more than 140 amps.

Thats awesome. I mean, I guess i can fork over the money, just gotta buy the wife something first to soften the blow hahahhahah
 
Lite update:
Guy's bracket does not come from a camry. 6 trips to the junk yard and a plethora of 86-even 97 camry alternator brackets searched and failed to find the ine pictured in the link. (Searched 4bangers and v6's)
Modified/bent and trimmed an oem alt bracket and got the alternator all mounted and was able to use the original belt. All tight and wired up. Volt meter says its charging the battery..... Sweet right?
Go outside 5 hours later to see my tail lights on.... Turn the key over and notice my blower motor will not turn on neither lol
Wtf....
Followed the diagrams from all the cs alt swap threads... Will update later this weekend when i tear into it again. Any ideas? I unplugged the alternator harness and connected the battery, tails still lighting up and no blower power. Ugh... Just want to be done.
Will be the first to say- should have just emptied the wallet for a beefed up oem unit lol

Up and running. Battery light works, alternator is charging and the pulley is spinning just fine with my modified oem alternator bracket. Turns out my brake pedal sensor was slightly bent for some reason and the black release button on it which activates the brake lights was stuck inside the sensor. Pulled it, straightened it out and cleaned it up, no more constant brake lights. As for the ac, no idea. Gotta tear into that and see if a relay shet the bed or a fuse or.... Who knows.
Break down of the cs130 swap:
Newer looking reman'd cs130 alternator and harness from pick a part:25 bucks
Spare alternator bracket to bend and cut:3 bucks
I had the 4ga wire and inline fuse holder laying around + all the random butt and ring terminals.
Under thirty bucks and 3 days (about 3-4 hours a day) working on it,scratching my head and drinking beer, 105 amps for 30 bones.

I an done, wait... Need to figure out my blower motor problem now lol
 
The alt on my 88 just went out. I saw the one from QualityPower...really sweet but a bit pricey. :( My question is if there is an alt from another toyota model that might interchange? I'd like to keep it all toyota but would be open to the GM mod.

Google MR2 alt swap
 
The 100amp MR2 alt swap is for 3.0s unfortunately. I did find a place called BoyleFutureTecnology that will rewind ur stock alt to 135amps. U gotta ship it to 'em and costs arnd $175. They dont have a site (at least one i could find) which seems a bit odd and some ppl complained about damage caused by their crappy packaging. Gonna try calling 'em tomorrow.

That's not bad at all, looks like Quality Power has gone up quite a bit since I bought from them.
 
Spoke with Jeff at FutureTech n he said they can rewind my alt no problem. Just gotta ship it to 'em n its about a 2-3 day turnaround. Cost is $185 not including shipping. They dont have a website. Their number is 530-888-6290
 
Hey Jonny, would you consider the wiring to be pretty easy? My alt went out yesterdays ans think I might do the GM swap, I don't have a problem with buying the bracket, but I have heard of problems with the stock battery light in the dash. Did that happen to you?
I just want some more insight before I start.

I am actually surprised at how much abuse the stock alt put up with considering all my lights, radio equipment, winch, stereo, etc that I run on a daily basis.
