Custom Front Shackel Mounts?

Oh hell, we are talking about beach recovery? Use the factory front loops but better yet buy yourself one of these for the rear

And with all the money you saved buy a compressor so you can air up your tires.

I guess this would depend on if you're the recoveror or the recoveree (sp). :ohwell:
I asked about the use of the hitch a while back and I think I received a lot of poo-poo's. :tape: This truly looks like the best solution for the rear, but still have to figure out something for the front.

and therein is the problem for me at least. on the 2014, the factory location sits higher than the bodywork, so in my case, I would have to remove the front bumper and rear bumper to not damage those pieces.

I will have to take pics to show what I am talking about.

but on initial question I added to this thread, how would I extend that factory mount point lower to make it usable for when I need to pull it out of say a snow bank, etc during my winters up here.

and trust me, when its -20F that bodywork don't need much pressure to crack when its that brittle due to cold.

I would be careful about trying to craft a way of lowering the already low factory recovery loop. If you peek under there you'll see that it's actually welded onto the front cross member and not directly in line at the tip of the frame rail...the problem with this is it creates a "leverage" thingamabob at the actual frame rail point. Now imagine extending that point even lower and consequentially increasing the leverage even more? Things just might start getting twisted :tape:

well here are some pics of the rear (1st pic) and front (2nd pic). as you can see, they are way higher than the bodywork and the front black air dam. what I would like is to find something to fit/attach to the original loops so I can lower the attach point of say a tow strap or recovery strap for being pulled out of a snowy ditch or stuck situation in snow.

I remember having similar concerns about my rig before the TE conversion. That bodywork is a pretty big screw-up on toyota's part, IMO. Defintely not ideal. I did the receiver D-ring adapter in back. The front is definitely less than ideal, but usable for most recoveries like snow, sand, mud. What does the owner's manual say?

the manual says remove the bottom part from the front. but if you look at the pic, the tie down loop sits higher than the part you remove. you remove the section that is cut out already from what I can tell, not both pieces.

guess I just have to make sure I go front first into the snow and use my hitch in the back for a hook point. right now I have it upside down to use as a step to reach the roof from the back to remove snow. plus I leave the hitch on the back so I don't have people ride my ass at stop lights.

Why? Serious question. You may not have the option off road in the woods but on the beach you can always have somebody pull you from the rear just as easily as from the front.

I know it is a rare thing to need to pull someone from the sand who is stuck using the front of your vehicle but I actually had an opportunity to assist with an extraction and couldn't help because my Heep didn't have extraction hooks up front. It was the WORST sand conditions I have ever seen at the beach and high tide was upon us at 4 pm. We sat for over two hours while others were attempting to get the beach cleared. One buddy of mine in a Tacoma ( who never aired down) dug himself a couple holes and sat the Tacoma down on the frame in the sand. I just so happened to have a tow strap but no way to turn my Heep GC around for fear of getting stuck. My other buddy in his TJ was able to spin his vehicle around and pull from behind. It didn't take much to get him out but in my case I could have saved the day if I had front hooks on my truck. This is kinda why I was asking the question to see if someone may have modded their SR5 to enclude shackles that were easy to get too when you find yourself in this kinda of pinch.

Oregon Inlet Idiots has a photo album of submissions to their website from back in 2011. 51 photos can be found at the link below. If you have a minute take a look. All kinds of stuck people.

My recovery strap is in use below on the Yellow TJ attached to the Taco! As you can see some people were having a very bad day. The White Ford broke a front axle attempting to extract the Green Ford who was buried up to the frame and sitting in the water. View the above link for more photos.
