For what its worth, you really don't need a cluster to drive around. Apart from emergency lights, you basically need to know 3 things. Speed/Fuel/Miles. Anyway, I've done it MANY times. As far as fuel: All you need to do and fill up your tank and have a rough estimate of how much you are driving. (for me, that isn't a problem b/c I don't drive my 4Runner very often). Speed: If you have a GPS (garmin/tomtom/etc), those usually tell you how fast you are going. If you don't, easy, just keep up with traffic and don't pass anyone to stay out of trouble. Miles: Mileage isn't recorded b/c that is stored IN the cluster. Your HVAC display where there is a distance to empty, MPG reading and average speed will no longer work (FYI). If you have a factory NAV, it will get squirrely (VSS signal gets interrupted if no cluster is installed). Also, when you reinstall the cluster, you may have a check engine light and three other lights come on: (VSA off/VSC TRAC/traction control). After several cycles, these lights will eventually turn off.

Hope this helps anyone debating on using the "loaner cluster"

If you are a responsible and cautious driver, you can get away with driving without the cluster for a little while.
