I was thinking you can either extend the wires for the factory usb port to where ever you would like to put it, or you can just run a usb extension cord from the factory port to the new spot. The tricky part is finding a clean way of mounting the female end of the extended USB port into the console, I would look around for surface mount socket options.
I have not personally searched for surface mount usb receptacles, but I would imagine they are out there. I did look at the wiring harness connected to the back of the factory usb socket and it seems like just a couple of wires that you need to extend should you want to move it around.
It might be even easier on the 2013 since if I understand correctly, the usb socket is now located directly below the head unit, and much closer to the center console.
