Following [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION]'s thread, I decided to order TE N-Fab steps for my 2012 SR5. I removed the rockers, installed the steps in no time flat (PLEASE don't pay some shop $300 to do it for you. You literally need one wrench to install these steps), and then decided to mask off and cut my rockers.
Instead of carefully laying down one piece of tape with a straight edge and then another to protect the paint, I thought it might be easier to lay a single wide piece of tape across the general area of where I would make my cut and then measure and draw a single line down the middle of the tape to guide my cuts, like this:
This way, I only have to lay one piece of tape in a not-too-exact way (I know it would've taken me WAY longer to lay the tape perfectly), and I can have a nice, easy to follow, black line on it for my cuts. BONUS: since the cut is right down the middle of the tape, I can sand off the frayed plastic afterward without worrying about scratching the paint.
After drawing my guide line, the actual cutting took about 5 minutes total (I used my trusty Ryobi 5" skill saw :wow
, I dremeled the heads off the rivets holding the plastic framing onto the back, sanded the panels, and popped them right back into place (without removing the steps!), and they are secured by two screws under the doors, the screws in the wheel wells, and the several pop-in tabs (remember, the aluminum mounting brackets are no longer part of the new rockers). I haven't yet cut the wheel well extension pieces because I finished this at 11pm tonight. Here's the only pic I have of them installed in my garage:
