Cutting off Exhaust behind rear axle?

having the tail pipe changed to a side exit will not solve the problem of caving it on rocks while wheeling. I chopped mine just as it came back over the axle probably two years ago now, and I've had no issues at all. For the record, I did talk to a muffler shop about side exit, IIRC they wanted $120 on top of the parts and labour to install my Magnaflo. crooks.

After doing this...

I did this...

I had a local shop cut the OEM pipe at the last hanger and weld on a turned tip that aims towards the passenger side. Painted black with high-heat paint. This will work for me until I end up adding a rear plated bumper, then I will re-assess. No exhaust fumes driving around an entire weekend in the mountains, with a good portion of the trip with the back window down. Works for me!

same. $40 and done. Got it done at the muffler shop i get my inspection at every year. Two birds, one stone. lol.

Turning to the side rocks. Especially when hooking up to or launching the boat. Wife loves it so i couldnt be happier. I am going to paint it black though so it will blend in better with the mudflap.

What's the solid axle vehicle in the background of the first photo? 3rd Gen 4Runner?
