CV axel installation help

Hi y'all,
I'm trying to install a new cv axel on a 98 4x4. I am unable to get it to mate with the hub properly. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Sometimes it helps if you rotate the cv a little and try engaging it in the diff. Even a slight angle at certain points on the rotation can keep the c clip from wanting to go in.

hes referring to the hub end, not the transfer case end.

OP, keep at it. the straighter the axle, the easier it is. try rotating while putting it in. Nothing more i can say...should go right in
 
The better aligned the axle the easier it "slips" in. Did you disconnect the UCA or LCA to swap the CV? Either way you probably need to raise the spindle some to take the CV out of a bind. Worst case you can pull it through with the nut but I would do that as a last resort.

how'd you figured? i don't see the front diff in the pics..

OP, jiggle the shaft @ the wheel end while slipping it in.....if that don't work for you try rotating the wheel to see if the spline will line up.

If you're just talking about the CV shaft splines lining up with the hub splines, it should go in very easy. I've done this job 3 times and every time it slid right into the hub splines with little effort. What usually gives people problems is seating the shaft into the differential.

I'm guessing you meant to say differential rather than transfer case since we're talking about CV axles.
 
If you look closely at the second picture one can see ball bearings at the top of the new axle threads for the axle hub nut. That is a real problem, and my guess is the problem will only be rectified with a new wheel bearing.

Good eye. I think the OP needs to see this video then. It's not the exact thing since the video is for a Manual Hub Conversion but the job is very similar for the standard knuckles that come on the 3rd Gens.

yeah, my mistake. I almost did it again in my next comment, but caught myself and said transaxle. Even that is incorrect. Should have said diff on both lol...long day i guess
 
Thanks for all the suggestions. I was able to use the nut to pull it through the axel. I will look in to the wheel bearing.

I think those are globs of grease. That is the spacer inside of the ABS rotor and if a bearing got in there that bearing would be GONE. Besides I think the bearings are cylinder shaped.
 
Ignore everything I said - you age, your vision goes, your mind goes, and then you start blabbering about things that are not applicable (grabs for drool cup...)
